4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

the hotel is fun for kids, a lot of water activities, food in the hotel is in good quality and not expensive, even adult will enjoy the water and swimming pool in the resort,I was at the two bedroom suite , very nice and clean , staff are friendly, you must know that no attraction around the hotel, only attraction in the hotel , There is a beach , but really not good for swimming

Room Tip: all the rooms are in good location

My family and I stayed at the Imperial Palace Waterpark in Lapu Lapu, Cebu, the Philippines last month for R n R and I was half pleased with the experience.

Least to say, the facilities are world class. But for the price that I paid, $350/night for a suite, I thought it is too high for the service that I got. When you enter the lobby, you are missing that "wow" factor. The check-in counter is hidden from view when you first enter the lobby doors and I did not see signs leading me to the check-in counter. I went to a table (which was probably for concierge) and the ladies told me where the counter was in a fashion of "What? You don't know where the check-in counter is?".

At the check-in counter, I spent 45 minutes checking in while in fact I already paid for the room the night before I checked in to the resort. If you are coming in directly from a very long flight and you are tired, 45 minutes is the last thing you want before you can go to your room and rest.

The rooms were very nice but where are the information booklets???

I was also given a separate card for towels. Why??? I cannot bring my towel to the pool areas or vice versa. Is there really a shortage of towels that the hotel is stringent on the use of it? Even if I have to use a card for towel use in the pool areas, why have a separate card? Why can't it be incorporated to the room key? Is it that hard to program such things to the room key system? I would understand that for those who are at the resort for day-use only, they use a towel card. But still, these are "towels" people.

The breakfast was chaotic as ever. There were actually 3 different restaurants that cater to different cuisines (i.e. Korean, Japanese, etc.). The problem was there were not enough signs nor did the staff adequately instructed guests beforehand on where to go for breakfast. There were a lot of tourists that went to the wrong restaurant and were told to go to the other which is far from the restaurant they were in at first. This was probably because of inadequate informational booklets in the rooms.

The hotel also has a policy of having only 4 adults and 2 kids for the 2-bedroom suite. That makes the hotel "not" family friendly at all. I had to pay extra for the other 2 kids in my family.

With regards to the charges, the hotel charged my account up front for the rooms. This is the first time that I've been in a hotel/resort that the charges were not settled at check-out. So for other charges incurred in my stay, they had to charge me separate for that.

I would still recommend this resort to people as I've said that the facilities are world-class. But I personally won't be checking in back soon. I was not impressed at all with the services. Maybe the other resorts in the area are better organized than this one and are better suited for the price I would pay.

Best hotel and resort visited so far in Cebu. Top notch service and facilities. But expensive to eat there but if you go nearby restaurants they are cheaper. The water park and swimming pools are the best. The beach so so and small. Overall the experience was very positive.

Room Tip: You pay for the room for the view but personally all the views are good

With all the hype about this hotel, I finally had the opportunity to stay the weekend of June 14th 20013. The rooms were filthy, no toilet paper provided in the bathrooms, the shower was not working. For the price I paid, it was not worth it. I dont have any intentions of returning to this place

Their Mactan Suite room was good with an excellent room service and a good reasonable food menu ,kids loved the fun on the water slides and swimming pool , also liked the korean buffet breakfast ,although restaurant should add more of other international menu but altogether good for a family holiday escape !!

Came back after 2 years with my husband and two kids for 4D/3N. Stayed at the Mactan Suite. Was disappointed at the general state of the hotel. It looks worn and tired. Curtains, towels and baskets have holes in them. There was even a leak coming from our bathroom ceiling which caused us to change rooms.

The service is a bit better with the front desk personnel being more accommodating.

The breakfast buffet maintains a good selection and is offered in 3 areas. However, there's a short wait to get in the restaurant and some lines (can be long) in the counters. It can also get pretty loud with all the guests, mostly families with young kids and staff hovering around. The service staff was polite.

The beach is tiny and though the water was clear enough too see and feed some fish, there were leaves and garbage floating around. The kids enjoyed the water park and the pools including the wave wall.

There is a kid's arcade. Whereas this used to be a free service for in-house guests before that is no longer the case. P200/hr is charged for video games and tokens are P120/10 pcs.

Across the street from the hotel is a grocery and some Korean restaurants. There's a shuttle to SM and Ayala malls but make sure to reserve ahead of time as the seats are very limited.

I don't think we'll be heading back to Imperial Palace anytime soon.
