My positive first impression of this hotel occurred in the lobby where an amazing model railway had been assembled.
The layout wasn't that interesting, and there was only one locomotive, but where it excelled was the Christmas in the northern hemisphere-themed scenery, with snow and numerous working models including a hot air balloon, a carousel and many others that included people who rotated.
The whole display was covered in 'snow' with many buildings lit, as well as illuminated tracks. It looked magical and was aimed at raising a million pesos for cebu's cancer patients.
The lobby also had a hue illuminated Christmas tree and a Santa display that included a lit fireplace. Quite amazing.
My room was quite reasonable: it was a 'mountain view' room that I initially was worried would be noisy from traffic on Veterans Drive: this turned out not to be the case.
The bed was comfortable and the bathroom amenities quite generous.
The bedroom and bathroom furniture and fittings is definitely ageing but still functional.
The shower over bath worked perfectly.
The television had an excellent range of cable channels, and the refrigerator worked well.
Breakfast had a very good range of items, including some of the better bacon I have tasted in the Philippines and excellent selections of fresh fruit and for those who don't find them too 'gluggy' in the morning, fresh pastries, bread and croissants. Sadly there were no shakes although three types of juice includin excellent 'Four Seasons' was available.
The refurbished pool was terrific although only a little more than a metre deep at its deepest. It has an attached bar.
Checkout was one area capable of improvement. It took in excess of 10 minutes to be served.
The front door staff were efficient in obtaining street taxis and they did not attempt to foist 'hotel taxis' at inflated prices upon guests or visitors.
