“Top class, clean, good food and facilities, nice location, no complaints.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2011

Very impressed. Big, grand hotel; all the faclities you could want; bedrooms and public areas clean and well-maintained; and an overall feeling that the place is well managed. Sure, the location appears to be a bit out-of-the-way, but Cebu is a big place and no one hotel is going to be central to everything. Besides, after a day of the pollution and chaos downtown, it's nice to retreat into the hills to somewhere that is slightly cooler, and far quieter. And air-con taxis are cheap and readily available (about Peso 100 to get to or from downtown, in 10-15 minutes) and, during my visit at least, the traffic was nothing like as bad as I had expected it to be. The hotel does offer a free shuttle bus down to the two main shopping malls, every hour or two, but do not make the same mistake as me - it does NOT pick up downtown as well, it only drops off (I wasted 20 minutes waiting for a non-existent shuttle to arrive at SM Mall).

Some small points that impressed me: the bathroom in my room looked like it had been refurbished - perfect re-grouting; repainted ceiling and varnished door. 80 channel TV with a perfect picture (how many times have you had poor TV reception in hotels); a rubber mat in the bath tub to prevent slipping, which was clean and changed daily; big fluffy white towels. My room was on the 21st floor of the hotel, and offered a panoramic view of Cebu, right out to sea and Mactan Island. There was free wifi in the room (even though Reception had advised me that it was chargeable - maybe I was just lucky to pick up a signal) but the Internet access did crash twice during my stay.

The hotel has a big, clean, well maintained outdoor pool. Plenty of sun-beds. I liked the fact that the pool-area is well used, with a busy Italian restaurant by the pool, which served excellent food, and music acts on a small stage by the pool during dinner.

Breakfast in the main restaurant was excellent - the range of food, the quality, and the service was generally keen and attentive. No complaints at all.

Overall, if you can get a good rate, and don't mind feeling that you are not in the centre of town, this grand hotel up in the hills, is an excellent place to stay.

The Marco Polo is one of the top properties in Cebu City, from its opulent lobby to the restaurants and the rooms. We were here to visit family and we ordered room service quite a bit - service was very pleasant, prices were reasonable, and the food was delicious. The buffets are one of its best features - several types of cuisine, some dishes prepared to order, beautifully presented - one would have difficulty leaving this place hungry. The pool areas are pleasant and relaxing with close proximity to the El Viento restaurant allowing for very laid back al fresco dining. We had a room on the 20th floor with unobstructed city views. Rooms are well-furnished, and the bathroom had a make-up mirror - a treat for those who have vision problems. Bathroom amenities were excellent quality and promptly replaced when needed.
One thing the hotel might consider is adding more shops. With its location being far from the hustle and bustle of uptown Cebu City, they would do well to provide more shopping for guests who may not be much into hopping in and out of taxis.
All told, the Marco Polo was very comfortable and provided us with a very pleasant stay.

We came to Cebu with the superferry in the morning and simply took a taxi up to Marco Polo and asked if they had a room for us. They took good care of us all the way from the taxi, since they had to make up the room for us we had to wait a little while before check in. We choosed the pool area, and enjoyed a cup of coffee there. Nice ambience.

Our room was on the 18 or 20'th floor (don't remember) with a view at the back. If you have a choice here i would go for the city view where you can see the whole city. Anyway, it was clean and it had flat screen tv, minibar and safe. Prices on room service was ok in my opinion.

Breakfast buffet here is huge, with a lot of choices. I doubt you will miss anything, and the quality of the food i choose was good. I am basically happy if i can have quality bread and cheese/jam and a good cup of coffee, but i was tempted by the sushi here and it was delicious. My better half also expressed her satisfaction with the food here.

We also enjoyed the food at the poolside restaurant, the staff there was good. Prices was ok, i didn't feel overcharged. The pool is clean and look good, they also have a small pool for the kids and i noticed the staff kept an eye on what was going on there.

The service at this place is good, the staff was professional and polite at all times. However, i feel that this hotel is a little overpriced (i was charged 5 500 php pr night) because of the location. You have to take a taxi if you want to do something since it is far from the city and the beaches. But still, i might stay here again, and i have no problem to recommend it since i had a good time here. All the taxidrivers we used knew the place.

My experience at the Marco Polo was excellent. Affordable rates, excellent service, good food.

The room was clean and very comfortable. The elevators are super fast.

Despite a large number of guests it was very quiet.
