“great place to visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013 via mobile

its a very small fort, you can easily be done here in about 30 minutes. what made our visit here a great experience is when 2 tourism student ojt named sheryl and shan assisted us and guided us as our personal historic tourist guide. they are very accomodating and spoke like a true tourist guide. they told us stories of the old sultan and his queen on their road to christianism and some surprising facts behind magellan's history. all in all, we enjoyed it.

“worth a visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

Include this with a visit to Magellan's Cross and the Basilica, and you have a lovely morning's sightseeing. There are some informative boards to read, along with pleasant surroundings to wander in and think about the history of the area. When we visited a vision impaired gentleman was playing guitar and singing- easy listening!
In such an overcrowded city, it's lovely to find a clean and quiet area.

“Worth Visiting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

If it weren't near the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Basilica of the Holy Infant, it might not be worth a special journey. But the three together make a great intro to the history of Cebu. The fort is well preserved and has some attractive plantings.

“A good intact structure in peaceful environs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

How to reach :
Take a Jeep or taxi to Plaza Independencia - teh fort is next to it (Santo Nino cathedral is 5 minutes walk)

Fort San Pedro is located right beside Plaza Independecia (with it's big gardens and the Urdaneta monument). It is intact in most places (which is surprising, considering that is is about 250 years old - it seems to have managed to escape unscathed after World War II), and makes for really good photos due to the moss on the walls.

When we went, it was not so crowded, so we could amble around inside, exploring nooks and crannies. However, it is not so well sign boarded, so I suggest you read up about it on the net before visiting it.

The canons along the ramparts of the fort are intact. There is a nice garden inside and the views from the second level were good.

Tip :
Arrive in the morning - it is less hot and sunny, and the crowds are lesser.

“Adorable little fort near a large park and the main post office!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

This is a teeny tiny little fort, ruled by cats. I kid you not, there were more than a dozen cats loitering about the place when we visited, with one cat even occupying a prized spot right inside a small shrine to the Santo Nino (baby Jesus).

The fort itself is adorable, and it will take you less than five minutes to walk around its entirety, plus a couple minutes to look at the displays and the somewhat crazy-eyed paintings of the history of Cebu and Mactan (the Lapu Lapu vs. Magellan is a particular favourite). After this, you can take a stroll around the large Plaza Independencia or walk to the Santo Nino Church nearby.

Fees are minimal and they provide a student discount. They do however charge extra for wheelchairs/disabled access. We paid PHP 30 each as we forgot our student cards. The elderly people behind us though, one of whom was in a wheelchair paid PHP 100.

Visiting Fort Santiago is also ideal as Cebu's largest post office is right behind it, and it would be a perfect time to send off those postcards as finding a post office near major hotels in Cebu or Mactan is a pain.
