“Good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

I recently stayed at the Parklane in Cebu, and though I had stayed there before and been satisfied with the overall quality, I hadn't been back to Cebu in about a year. I stayed in an Executive Room on the 16th floor, and the price included free Wifi access, and free consumption of drinks from the minibar, as well as access to the lounge, which I didn't use.

This is not a luxury hotel, and I think it's rated locally at 4 stars; by European standards it would probably be a 3 star. The location, a one minute walk or so from Ayala Mall and a five minute drive from Crossroads, is quite good, as is the service and the friendliness of the staff who seem genuinely glad to be of service. Hotel amenities include a reasonably large swimming pool and a fitness center, and breakfast, in a large, sunny dining room was included in the price of the room. I'm not a breakfast eater so I cannot comment on the quality of the food.

The rooms are attractive, with functional, plain furnishings and the bathroom had an excellent shower. Lots of bathroom amenities were included, as was an in-room hot water kettle with tea and coffee.

Given the central location and the overall level of service, I would return without hesitation.

This hotel was pArt of package. Don't go on Holy Week, unless u r are there for religious reasons. Otherwise Shops in hotel And SM Mall were closed. Regardless a city tour was nice and it was available.
The pool gets sun only first part of day. So go early.
Service personnel were all very helpful and kind.

i've been to cebu several times and i've stayed in several hotel in the area and i must say this hotel is one of the best!

Location: a five minute walk to ayala center which houses wide array of shops and restaurants!

Transportation: considering the location near a mall... taxis are really not a problem. the hotel guards will help you get one. ;-)

rooms: CLEAN! sheets, pillows, duvet, towel and even the room carpet are clean. no bad or funky odor inside the room. thumbs up! the room with a king size bed is big enough for the two of us. we were able to sleep well!

amenities: pool is not as a big but ive enjoyed it. complete gym set... thumbs up!

food: wide array of continental and filipino breakfast food. tip: eat your breakfast early to enjoy some quiet time because the buffet area tends to be too crowded during late breakfast time.

service: very accommodating staff. i did a late check out on our last day and i was not even charged for it... thumbs Up!

There are some nice things to say: No bedbugs (I check every hotel), the room was clean and the breakfast buffet is the best breakfast in town (but get there before 8:45 or you will find little to eat) it has all been overshadowed by a rather surprising theft.

Since Parklane has abysmal US$ for PHP exchange we left our luggage with the handlers just 20 feet from the front desk for less than one hour. A Buffalo modem, a power brick for my laptop and a HP financial calculator was stolen. Rather stupidly I might add as the thief left the power supply and the antenna for the modem and the power brick only fits one laptop. I suppose someone might get a few bucks for the HP calculator.

The room was nice, the location good, there was an attempt to overcharge us which was graciously corrected. The Valentine's day dinner was mediocre. Overall I'd recommend it only for the $12 breakfast buffet as long as you get there early.

Room Tip: Don't let them touch your luggage and buy a lock for every single bag you have. How ironic that...

After a late flight arrival well after midnight we were looking forward checking in at the Parklane. The reservation check-in was quick since we were the only ones in the lobby at that time of night. When we got to our room we were shocked to see a very small bed that was clearly set up for a single. Upon returning immediately to reception we were told they did not have the room we had reserved (several months earlier) but were able to give us a room according to our reservation if we paid extra because the room would be on the executive floor. At the same time we were told we could not use the amenities that went with that room. When we refused to pay more the staff finally agreed that it was their mistake and went to check the room on the executive floor to make sure it was cleaned. When she came back handed us a key for the room. Strangely the room we were actually given was not on the executive floor that she spoke about but it did meet our reservation so no issue. However it was obvious that the correct room type was already available when we first arrived and we were mistified as to why we were not given that room in the first place. It should be noted that this entire episode took over an hour and was not a pleasant experience considering it was after 3:00 am when we were finally given the correct room.

Regardless of that unfortunate start to our stay, the rest of our stay was ok. The proximity to the Ayala Mall within a few minutes walk is a real plus as it offers many shopping opportunities as well as alternatives to the hotel restaurant and coffee shop.

The staff was genuinely friendly in the hotel. Of particular note was the bellhop who stored our luggage for us for a while on departure day. He was very polite and eager to take care of our luggage.

The restaurant serves a reasonable breakfast buffet, However there was a clear lack of attention to details. For example there were no name tags identifying the food in the warmers. As a result everyone lifted each warmer lid to see what was inside. That should not be necessary. Replenishing the food was typically very slow No one seemed to be monitoring the buffet on a regular basis. Similarly coffee refills were hard to come by. On arrival the staff was very attentive and quick to serve but after that it seemed guests were almost a forgotten entity.

The hotel is well located and clean. With just a bit of attention to detail and better organization this hotel could be a real gem.
