“Nice quite and safe place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

Nice quite accomodation (the day I went). Lots of multistory rooms but very little used. Watch for the coconut tree climbing man - no tools to climb. Has a nice walk path around the large complex. Staff all very nice and polite. Secure area that is meant for cars in and out not foot traffic. Right on the coast.

Room Tip: Pick the room based on location and floor height you want (no LIFTS)

Stayed here on business so I can't speak to value for money but for my first trip to Mindanao (and the Philippines itself), this was a pleasant resort comparable to others I've stayed at in Southeast Asia with some minuses.

The rooms seemed larger than average and were clean if a bit dated. Could use some new fixtures, but not a major issue.

Palm tree-laden grounds were reasonably well kept with a single oval pool (sometimes it's nice to have a couple of configurations. No fitness center, which was the only glaring omission I noticed.

The Waterfront Insular has several restaurants to choose from, which is probably necessary as it fairly removed from the town. Breakfast buffet was average. For longer vacations I generally prefer resorts which are walking distance (or a short cab ride) from town, but this wasn't as much of an issue on business. Wi-Fi was spotty, which was frustrating at times.

Unfortunately the beach nearby is only for looking at -- no swimming due to pollution.

Staff were generally friendly and helpful but not overly outgoing. They're there if you need them, was the vibe.

I believe Waterfront is a domestic chains so it's not quite up to the level of an international brand like Hyatt, Sheraton etc. but I had a decent stay.

Relatively old rooms, but at least a small flat screen TV with good channel choice. Reception is very slow with several people standing around instead of assisting waiting guests. Overall the staff seems to lack training for a four star hotel. People are friendly, but do not know some of the basics. Tried to use wifi in the conference room, but staff did not know about it. Food is ok, but staff in breakfast room not attentive. Marco Polo is a better choice unless you want to stay at the beach. When checking out, they asked about the minibar which was locked during the entire stay.

Room Tip: Twin beds are relatively big and might sleep a family with two small kids.

I called the hotel from USA and reserved a room for 9 days with ocean view. When we checked in
they did not have the room I requested, instead we had a room facing a noisy playground and a creek. I asked them to let me know when room with ocean view was available, after the 3rd day no room with ocean view. We checked out on the 3rd day and got a room at Marco Polo.
The restaurant staff was good. It has very large ground area and nice, very old pool too deep not enough shallow area for kids or for walking exercise. Pool spa is old, water was not hot enough and dirty water. Pool staff was good. Buffet was OK but many of the food appears leftovers reheated. The room is out dated, sliding patio door hard to close and no elevator.

Room Tip: No elevator get first floor room.

This hotel is a little bit of a distance from the airport and other attractions. You will also need transportation going in and out of the hotel... but it does have its' own dock which is good for island hopping. It's ideal for team building and other events where you need or want to have everyone in one place and not wander off on their own easily. Service is excellent, food is good, though a little expensive, room service is 24 hours. In room massage is available. The facilities such as swimming pool is very nice. Grounds are well maintained also. Though the rooms are pretty old, it's clean and the bathrooms are spacious enough. The walls are a little thin and excited conversations can be heard through the connecting doors. I would stay again if I don't plan on moving around the city much or if I have transportation arrangements. Otherwise, I would opt for a hotel within the city propoer itself.

Room Tip: If you have diffuculties managing steps and stairs, request for a ground floor room.... there are no...

I have stayed at all the better hotels in Davao except the Marco Polo and I have found this one to be the Best! This is one hotel I did not want to leave! By Davao standards, it is Outstanding.

Common areas were kept clean, very well maintained and quiet. I choose the Deluxe Premium room so I would get a balcony overlooking the pool area. Rooms were very large, clean and comfortable. Housekeeping staff very responsive and friendly. Good Linens.

Breakfast Buffet had a wide selection of hot International foods. Service was supreme. Egg dishes cooked to order. Ate in all of the restaurants during the stay and was never unhappy with the quality and selection.

All staff was friendly and helpful. Cherry in the Sales Office did an outstanding job with our event.

My only Complaint: No chairs or shade in the designated smoking areas.

Stayed in this hotel for a business-related activity. The hotel is sprawling with a good view. But we had to carry our heavy luggages up the stairs to our 2nd floor room. Staff were not helpful. You could see some staff whom I guess were in-charge of cleaning the rooms, they would just greet you but not offer to help. The staff seemed bored and not eager to be of help. The room we stayed in was crammed and old. Lots of cigarette burn marks on the furniture.
