“Stay somewhere elso”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

I regretted that I have booked here. I know I can find a better place to stay with such price. The room has no extra outlets, so if you want to charge your cell phone, you either unplug the TV or the aircon! Not even 1 extra outlet! The location is good though, because there a lot of restaurant and a Gaisano Mall in a walking distance only.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else if you can find a place with the same value.

I did a walk-in at GV Hotel and booked the Economy Twin. I wasn't looking for the height of luxury; just somewhere to rest my head and use as a base for a business trip.

The room was clean and tidy, with two single beds. Electricity is activated by the door card, so you can't accidentally leave lights on or the air-con running when you go out.

The only power points were for the TV and the Air-con, however Front Office lent me an extension lead for the duration of my stay, and were incredibly helpful throughout; with information about transport routes, times etc and local shops for purchases.

Breakfast is at additional cost but is very filling and freshly cooked.

All in all, if you are looking for a base whilst you are in Davao, and not wanting to spend big bucks GV is worth a visit.

The hotel was just a few minutes away from Ecoland bus terminal and very accessible to taxis and jeepneys.

Room rate was at Php1,100/night with 3 single beds which is very cheap for an airconditioned room and very affordable for those with tight pockets. Amenities include cable tv, hot and cold shower, towels, bath soap, and tissue paper.

Wifi available.

Only thing that bothered me is they only have limited outlets. No extra outlet inside the room for you to use to charge your cellphones. One outlet was for the tv, the other for the aircondition. So we had to turn off the tv for us to use the outlet or go to the dining hall to use the single outlet available as well. Such a hassle. And they didn't have extension wires that we could use.

Overall, when you're looking for a budget hotel, GV hotel is not a bad option. Especially when you only plan to sleep there and explore Davao the whole day. But yeah...bring an extension wire with you.

Their Customer Service was great! They are very hospitable and friendly. They have the initiative to help guests in their needs. The bed is nice you can sleep soundly. However they need to make sure that the room is clean. They lack maintenance of clean surroundings. The curtains and the walls,. They need to dust their air condition and Windows to be shut properly. Air conditioning of the room is good.Their rates i guess are just right.

Place is good enough if you just want a room to sleep and just to leave your things... they should improve their rooms and the the place. Location is okay since it's in a busy street, near the plaza, and the market . Accessibility is okay. Lots of taxis and jeepneys are plying the area.

GV Hotels really met my demands when it comes to affordability and comfort. During my barkada's vacation in Davao, we barely stayed in the hotel, what we needed was a comfy place to sleep in and to keep our things. For about 700Php we were able to relax in an air-conditioned room with nice shower and friendly staff. I spent my money where it should be. For traveling and nothing fancy. I really liked the simplicity of GV Hotels. Making traveling possible for tight-budgeted students like me. :)

The GV hotel in Davao is located at the corner of Legaspi St and Magallanes. This busy downtown area is near the parade route if you will attend the Kadayawan Festival in August. We have walked by this place many times in the past, but never gave it a second notice as it appears the same as many of the lower cost, short time (3 hour fun and run) hotels in this area from the street. Maybe that opinion is not that far reached as room rates can be as low as P420 (or lower) up to P875. I think they also have a family room for a bit more.

The entrance to the hotel is a bit funky, as if you are entering a parking garage, then up an inclined ramp, which by the way gets slippery when wet, into the reception area. Don’t expect any of the glamour or dazzle in the reception area (or the rooms) that their polished website implies. Even the logo, colors used and their sign differs. Room rates, promo prices, are okay for this place, but you can do much better for a bit more (P100) in the nearby MYHOTEL. I would never pay the non promo rates for this hotel.

The double deluxe is P875. The room that we used has seen better days and has not had a touch up even at the most basic levels for a long time it appears. The halls to get to the rooms are open aired, but somewhat dark with an unlocked fire escape at the end, which is good, but is also unlocked from the outside coming in as well. Anyone can seemingly enter the hotel this way. There is no guard on the back entrance. This left me and my hubby with the safety caution anxiety popping up. The room hallways have a big sign warning guests to take caution with valuables etc. This is good also, but makes you wonder, what happened to prompt that sign in the hallways. The hallways look as if they have not been swept or for sure not washed in awhile. Our room had two beds that we pushed together. Most of the double deluxe are set up that way if it includes a refrigerator. You can get a matrimonial bed room for P675, but no refrigerator. The matrimonial room that we saw also left the same impression that I describe here about our room. There is no wifi in the room; one must access it thru the main lobby, which was a draw back for us, not to mention we had problems accessing it even in the lobby.

The comfort room or bathroom has an open, non divided or curtained shower that is near to the toilet. So, expect a wet toilet unless you keep the seat up and a wet floor. Our toilet was stained badly from something and gave the appearance of being very dirty. Overall the comfort room was not cleaned well and we used alcohol to disinfect where we sat or touched. We never left valuables in the room and I advise not to do that as well, as does their own warning sign in the hallways. The AC in the room worked okay. Hot water was mediocre. Sheets and towels left much to be desired.

Service is basic, staff will respond to requests, but do not expect the enthusiasm that you will see at other hotels, its just not there.

The area outside of this hotel is a busy commercial area and is noisy, so make sure you do not get a room in the front. There are many places to eat and drink with also massage places nearby. There are also many bars and/or videoke to sit or to buy girls drinks nearby if that is your thing. You can walk to the smaller Gaisano Market nearby easily. I feel it’s safe to walk in this whole area, but others may be a bit turned off by it as people do sleep on the sidewalks and it appears to be a rough area, especially at night. We have never had a problem though and actually like this area when in Davao.

The impression of this hotel is one step above a short time hotel, just a short step at that, based on price and the rundown overall appearance. Most would just walk by it as we did in the past. This hotel, our only experience with CV Hotels, lacks the glitter and glossy look that the website presents for its hotels. This may be one reason why there is no photo of this hotel on the website. Even the sign out front, as mentioned, did not carry the logo or the colors as seen on the website. I hope this hotel is not representative of what we will find with the whole chain of CV hotels at large.

We will not stay there again. We moved into our favorite hotel the next day when rooms opened up; a big difference in quality overall, but the same costs basically and a whole lot cleaner. A budget hotel does not mean unsanitary, grimy or grossly stained toilets, especially if part of a bigger chain. I hope CV Hotels knows that, “budget” is not a term to hide behind to offer less than ideal accommodations. One look at this Davao hotel, one would not want to consider other CV Hotels.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere.
