I stayed recently at the Marco Polo Davao as part of an organizing team handling an event. Unfortunately I just stayed only overnight. What can I say about the hotel? It was marvelous! My room was very comfortable and the air-con is how I like it: FREEZING COLD! The room has complete amenities with a new and modern LCD TV. The view from my room is fantastic! Unfortunately I never had the chance to enjoy the breakfast buffet at the Café Marco that much but I was fortunate to indulge at the Lunch Buffet of the Lotus Court which serves Cantonese cuisine and Filipino specialties. You should be early though to enjoy the crispy and succulent Lechon (roasted pig)!

The Marco Polo is sitauted in the heart of the city and you can buy nice souvenirs and fruits in nearby shops and stores.

With regards to the convention services? I have to agree with the previous post, it terribly needs improvement! The Ballroom is nice but the service of the banquet staff is horrible, it seems that everything we ask for them is NOT AVAILABLE. My colleague has to go to their stock room to check out what is available for us to use. Fortunately though the waiters and the catering personnel were truly helpful and efficient and whatever their sales and banquet colleagues lack is what they have to satisfy us.

The Marco Polo is in terrible need of a 5-star competition! Care for a Shangri-la Davao City?!

Marco Polo Davao doesn't have any idea about business people's needs and confereces. Staff support level for anything to do with business conference is almost none. I attended a two day conference and stayed at Marco Polo Davao June 2008.

As an accommodation, it was ok, nothing special, but, the swimming pool and the gym were good. However, for the conference for two days, the conference room wasn't bright enough and it was either very hot or very very cold like standing in the street in cold winter. Apparently, the organiser complained so many times, but, either ignored or they just made the room totally opposite to what it was (cold or hot!).

For coffee and tea facilities were very poor and looked cheap, and during the conference of two days, lunch and dinner (4 of them) were exactly the SAME MENU (with very limited food options)!! Which makes you wonder if it is really 5 star hotel??? It must be self rating!? The place is definitely over priced with unhelpful or don't-know-what-to-do-with-your-request kind of staff.

Another thing that I noticed was its coffee shop on the ground floor. Everyday there were some old western looking men playing with young Filipino looking girls or boys. It even looked like "the meeting place" for old western men to meet young Filipino girls or boys. Apparently, one of the conference attendees questioned about it (quality control of the place), but, the asian looking manager didn't seem to care at all.

Overall as an accommodation it's ok, nothing exciting a bit over priced, but for a business purpose, it's very poor.

I stayed here for one night with my girlfriend, and the lobby was nice, with live entertianment, concierge service available, good front desk service. Rooms were not large nor was it too small. Great view of Gulf of Davao. Hotel had good security, comfortable bed, mini-bar, internet worked well for a price and it had a desk area.
The breakfast buffet was aomong the best I have had, with mnay choices and good food. The pool aea was great. Overall a very nice hotel, and will stay here again in the future.

My wedding reception at the ballroom of marco polo davao was a complete disaster and shame to my visitors due to the lack of quality of food served and the unsystematic and very slow service. The waiters didn't serve the food all at once so some guests have to wait endlessly from one course to another. The food was cold and dry, wasn't even in the menu I tasted a few months ago. They will just give you hundreds of reasons why they could not serve the food that you agreed upon that pissed me off on my wedding day. I got starved on my own reception. The management compensated for not letting me pay 22 persons but the inconvenience they did on my big day will never be forgotten.
