Unfortunately, the owner left out a some very important information from their advertizement in TripAdvisor. After my complaints, it seems that they have made changes in their ad. It was not disclosed that their would be additional charges for electricity, gas, parking and use of the washing machine until after I had driven 4 hours and I arrived at the property. The phone number in TripAdvisor for the manager in the Philippines was not working, so we made arrangements with the owner in Canada.
The owners apparently have several units in this complex. We stayed on the 5th floor, corner room of the Osaka building.
The location was next to the mall, so it was easy to get supplies. That was important because neither soap or toilet paper is supplied. But, it was also very very close to a Mosque, so we were blasted out of bed about 4 am each morning hearing the noisy loudspeakers announcing the prayers. This, of course, continued through the day and into the evening. Not an ideal place to get any rest!
The deposit for the 2 week stay was 10,000 PHP. Undisclosed charges include 200 PHP charge for gas and we were charged an additional 4750 PHP charge for electricity. That was a shock! Both the gas and electricity costs at this condo is higher than it costs me for utilities in a whole month for my entire house in the Philippines. If you wish to use the washer, there is an additional charge of 500 PHP per week. If you want to park your car, there are more charges.
The ad also stated "All rooms has air conditioning". Actually, only the 2 bedrooms had air conditioning. The two rooms were each equipped with 2 old, noisy, inefficient window units. Even if you run the units on high and used the ceiling fans in the dining and living area, the rest of the condo stayed unbearably hot. It became worse if you did any cooking!
The kitchen was well equipped with about anything you could want except for a microwave. Plenty of utensils also, but the knives were too dull to use and the "non-stick" coatings on the fry pan was 85% scratched, creating a health hazard if you cooked with it.
Overall the unit was clean, but there were some very dirty areas: Bathroom shelves were covered in crude, cabinet above the stove and under the sink were very nasty, exhaust fan in bathroom was covered in mold and dirt.
Living room was nicely appointed with comfortable furniture, but the covers were rather dusty. TV and stereo was nice and Internet was very good. We were very happy about that. Dining area was small, but it was a large table with 6 chairs.
Master bedroom had a very comfortable king size bed, one bedside table and a small cabinet to hang clothes. The size of the furniture left no other floor space except a narrow walkway around the bed so you could get to the door leading out on the balcony. The balcony was small, containing a table and two chairs, but it was nice to sit there during the cool of the morning or evening.
The other bedroom held a bunk bed which had a standard mattress below and a twin up top. This was a great arrangement for the kids. However, there was only a small shelving unit to place their clothes. Although there were "blackout" drapes in the master, there were only shear curtains in the second room, making privacy difficult. In addition, all that extra light, combined with the noise from the Mosque, the kids were awakened extra early in the morning.
The service we received was pretty good. The manager meet us on time at both check-in and check-out. When we reported there were only 2 towels supplied for 4 people she brought them right away once we notified her. The only challenge was getting enough sheets to outfit the beds and change them after the first week.
Swimming pool was not very large, but it was fine since only one other family used the pool while we were in it.
There was good security in the complex. The guards were helpful and it was also easy to have bottled water brought from the guard house.
Would I stay here again? Well there are many condos for rent in this complex. In addition, there is another condo complex across the street that rents units. In any event I would choose a unit away from the Mosque and from an owner that disclosed all costs up front so there would not be any surprises.
