“Relaxing place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

Me and my GF celebrated our 1st year anniversary and decided to visit this place. The location is about 2 to 3 hours from Manila we only took the bus. When we arrive we were greeted with complementary drinks. We only took the day took package. it includes food which is eat all you and it was very good, tour of the chapel and other museum inside the property. Also we we try the bamboo rafting which is very tiring. The man made waterfalls is the true attraction of this place for my opinion it was very good you will feel the cold breeze. Hope to come back again but hopefully next time we can stay overnight.

We came here for the first time last Feb. 16, 2013 and paid Php 1,450 per head. I guess going there on a weekend is a good choice because they have this cultural show held at around 2PM in the covered area/ bar. What I meant of their bar was they serve hotdogs, club house sandwiches, cold beverages (juices, shakes, ice-blended coffee, etc.), appetizers, ice cream, etc. The covered area looks like a Filipino-inspired auditorium. What I admired about this place was their use of solar and hydroelectric power. This place is a break from the city's hustle and bustle and you get to see a lot of trees, foliage....nature. While eating and having your feet soaked in water, you see fish swimming, kinda cute experience and the food (Caldereta, Ginataang Kalabas and Sitaw, Misua Soup, Inihaw a liempo, Ensalada with yummy bagoong) I find it yummy. Maybe it's just a matter of taste because some of the reviews gave bad feedback about it. I thought I'd be seeing more of the provincial life because of the carabao cart ride, only to find out that the carabao cart is the transportation from the reception to the resort area (bamboo rafting, lunch by the falls, cultural show). Kinda sad about the museum because it seems the displays where no longer taken cared for. I'd love to eat more of that Misua soup!

This was the last stay on our Luzon trip.

The booking process was smooth as they accepted a reservation even without any security and downpayment as a bank transfer from Singapore to the Philippines is costy.
Upon arrival, we got the vouchers for dinner, lunch and breakfast and were lead to our rooms on an electric car. Eco friendly here.

The Gumomela units are with A/C and are supposed to accomodate up to 4 pax. during reservation I asked if this means two separate rooms and they confirmed. But in fact it is just one big bedroom with 3 separate single beds and an emergency bed (or more a matress) for the 4th. No need to pay so much for that unit. The bathroom is dirty and the shower looks as if it has never been cleaned in a lifetime. Better choose the standard room in the longhouse, pay less and get the same. Nights are cooling, so no need for the aircon anyways.

The lake is beatiful as is the whole farm. Make sure you visit the museum and stroll around the farm on your own.

The food is very tasty and fresh and even he wine is good and cheap.

We certanly can recommend the place.

Room Tip: Don't pay for the pricy rooms and stick with the standard room. You don't get that much more...

its our second visit here but this time we availed only the day trip. its around 1,500php more or less 125USD. too bad rain won't stop so the food buffet usually served at the falls was served at the main pavilion and the amusement hall (newly built with billiard tables). Same tasty food but the atmosphere somewhat lessen my appetite. Staff and servers are still very accommodating we can't stop giving tips coz they're really at their best. Carabao rides have coupons now and are limited to two trips.. nevertheless, we had one going around the hacienda and also visited the church.
and the best of them all is the cultural show held at the main hall. More or less a dozen sing and dance ( all local showcasing Philippine culture) performance by the villa escudero dance troupe made our day.
TIP: book your visit on a weekend or holidays to witness the cultural show.

Room Tip: we stayed overnight (last year) at the cottages facing the garden and find it hard to sleep because...

Our group stayed in the long houses for Php2,300/pax. Each house can comfortably fit 6 pax and are artistically made with local materials. Even without an air-conditioned unit, the weather was cool; beds and pillows were very comfortable for use. Shower has hot/cold water. All meals were buffet style. What I like best is the museum (free entrance), its tour guide (Josh), and the cultural presentation.

The bamboo rafts and the swimming pools are additional activities you can enjoy for free.
The only criticism I have is they do not serve the welcome drinks if you arrive after 5:00 pm - which is an official check in time (aside from the 11am). We arrived there at 6pm, they claimed that no one is available to serve the drinks, but we will get it upon check-out. However, the next day, when I asked about our "departure drinks" after a tiring but satisfying tour at the museum, the receptionist said the same thing - no more crew to serve the drinks :-(

Starting from the carabao drawn carriage with "harana", lunch by the waterfalls, and the scenery, Villa Escudero is quite a unique experience. I recommend a full day to really enjoy the place. Don't forget the bamboo raft - good fun and very nice scenery. The whole place is nicely maintained, clean, and all the staff were very friendly and accommodating. If you got some extra time, stay overnight. Their accommodation is clean, nicely decorated, and ample space. I like the bamboo style set and high ceiling - just gorgeous.

All in all, we loved our stay at Villa Escudero. The property is lovely, the waterfall lunch is fun & delicious, and our waterside villa was gorgeous and serene. the staff was also very sweet and accommodating. Now on to the negatives. Because the walls are so thin and "Cadena de Amor" where we stayed allowed for 10 people to sleep, our serenity did not last long due to the family next door who was very noisy. The walls are very thin so there was no avoiding the noise other than asking them to quiet down a bit. This of course is not the hotel's fault. Where I do think there could be much improvement fairly easily is in the bathroom area. There are essentially very little to no toiletries available in the bath area. The shower head is crusty, the water pressure is weak, and there were cob webs in the shower above head. There is a general lack of modernity in the bathroom area which is the only place where modernity would have been a plus. If not modernity, then at least cleanliness. As for staying overnight, it's a lovely room but after you have seen the cultural show, taken the carabao ride and eaten at the waterfall lunch, you pretty much have done everything the property offers unless you are just there to relax with family which is what we did. The "games and recreation" area was basically a joke- there were no games that seemed available and the rec room was dark and sad with a single TV. The village tour was a little silly & short, although the chapel is lovely and the serenading during the carabao ride is a nice touch. With a little work and proper marketing, this place could be a dream but as is, it really is only great for a day trip as an earlier reviewer stated. I hope that things improve but in general everyone was very lovely and accommodating!
