“Ideal location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

First trip back to the Philippines since 1986 and first time to stay at Traders Hotel on a business trip...it is a convenient location--easy access to/from the airport, shopping centers, and other attractions. Their conference room facilities and restaurants (buffets) were ideal. Fantastic business lounge with great customer service!

Compared to Traders KL, Malaysia, Traders Manila is just ok.

The breakfast spread targets only non-vegetarians - very few options exist for non meat eating people. View from the room given to me was also into back side shanties of bar and 'massage' parlours.

The staff are courteous, but definitely there lies scope for more politeness and customer handling skills.

Room Tip: This hotel is not located at the heart of the city

Is this a negligence or honesty? We had a bad experienced in this hotel last Oct. 19,2013. A package for my friend from Hawaii who is one of their guest supposed to get that package in the reception area from me. After two weeks she called me from Hawaii that no package was given to her from the receptionist of this hotel were I left the package. all the while I trusted them that package will be delivered to her room, as soon I learned about that I went to this hotel and talked to the one in charged that day, to bad, no log-in, no data about my package for my friend...they said they will call me and they will investigate why this happen, until now no calls to inform me about this.....what happen?

Room Tip: Be careful with your valuable things and be sure they will really pay attention to your package next...

I've stayed at trader's a couple of times because overall, it is a relaxing place and you can just sit back and let the day pass. While the room is nice and comfortable and the facilities are in good repair, it's a little pricey. It's a nice place to take 1-2 days to get away to (even if local) and just relax (order in from any of the local restaurants, swim, use the fitness room).

The Traders Hotel is a decent hotel with clean and comfortable rooms. It has a mix of holiday makers and business travelers. The breakfast had both varieties of Western and Filipino food. The staff are friendly.

One problem is that there is nowhere to sit in the hotel lobby so if you are waiting for your pick-up, be prepared to stand around

You also need to be careful when walking around the streets of Manila. It is not safe, especially at night. And be wary of taxi drivers who try to cheat you. Make sure that the meter is turned on, with a starting rate of 40 pesos. We were cheated by a white taxi company upon arrival at the Manila Airport. Get a receipt from the taxi driver and note down his car plate number, so that if there is any problem, you can track them down. We did not get a receipt as it was our first trip to Manila and I am sorry to say that it gave us a very bad impression of the Philippines.

To the Mall of Asia, it is just a 5 to 7 min ride away. It took 45 mins to get to Traders from the airport with traffic but only 15 mins from Traders to the airport if there is no traffic. Give yourself an allowance of 1 hour traveling time as traffic in Manila can be extremely bad and congested. I have not experienced such congestion before. You need a lot of patience whilst visiting Manila...

I usually stay at the EDSA Shangri-La when in Manila but there must have been a function on there as the tariff was 26,000 PNP this time so I opted for a less expensive alternative and chose this hotel. I’ve always considered the Traders to be the hotel where you stay if you can’t afford the Shangri-La but if you want to build up Golden Circle frequent guest points.
And so it was with the Traders Hotel, it was definitely a step down from the Shangri-La but then at 8,000PNP, it was certainly a lot cheaper! I was having frequent meetings on this trip so I needed a room that allowed me to use the lounge and have access to the board room for our meetings.
The board room on the 19th floor is excellent for meetings and has an audio-visual screen there and we were well looked after by the lounge hostess!
The hotel was old but well-maintained and everything worked well! The staff were helpful and friendly, especially the two security guys at the front who were very helpful in finding taxis for us.
Breakfasts were good with a delightful hostess who always greeted us with a warm beaming smile. That is, the breakfast was good until my last morning there. Perhaps it was because it was a really busy Sunday but when I went there, many of the dishes were empty and replenishment was very slow of not forthcoming! This included the bacon together with many of the hot dishes and all the fruit!
The view from the hotel was good, overlooking the bay with many ships sailing around and the Philippine Art Centre that still looked modern even though it was built in the Marcos era.
There was an amusement park nearby and the Ferris wheel looked re3ally good lit up at night!
If you enjoy walking though, when you leave the hotel, go straight ahead to walk across six lanes of traffic to get to the Art Centre. Yes, admittedly, you do take your life in your hand crossing this road as cars seem to view pedestrians as targets! But this is still a lot safer than turning left as you leave the hotel as there’s nothing but derelict buildings and in the alleyways, many shanties and it felt decidedly unsafe walking around there, and I was walking there during the day!

The toiletries in the room were L’Occitane and I’d probably stay there for these alone as they have such a nice fresh smell. Much better than the standard hotel fare!

The hotel was a 100 PNP taxi ride away from the Mall of Asia which was a great place for shopping and eating! That is, 100 PNP if you found honest taxi drivers who are a rarity in Manila! Beware of the drivers who ask for more or claim their meters don’t work!
There’s a fair bit of road noise at this hotel but the best was very soft and comfortable that I slept though the noise!
This hotel is also fairly close to the airport and I’d advise any travellers to avail themselves of the hotel pickup as the taxis can be a little dicey! If you take this option, as you leave the airport terminal, go across the road to the centre island where you’ll find the Shangri-La lounge where you’ll wait for your car. The cars are well-stocked with munchies, cold water and best of all, in-car Wi-Fi!
I read an article recently saying Manila airport was the worst in the world or was that just Asia-Pacific and this was fair comment but when I departed, I took a Philippine Airline flight and departed form a spanking new terminal.
So on my next trip to the Philippines; I might just stay here again instead of her more expensive Shangri-La!

Even without the survey or review I love staying at Traders. The staff are all polite and enjoy what they do. From the moment you step out of your car you are greeted with a smile. The staff at the check in counter are pleasant.
