“Still a Marriott Hotel in the Making...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2009

Someday, this hotel will be a well oiled Marriott machine. However, it has ways to go. Meanwhile, it should not be charging rates comparable to better located, amenity-rich and well ran hotels in Makati -- the business district.

As of late November , only the bar, coffee counter and buffet restaurant are open.

Buffet items are not labeled -- leaving one to guess what they are eating half the time! In addition, the server left me the tab to sign while I was still working on my appetizer. Of course, I was told that she was in no rush (!). Wait staff seem to be running and rushing in circles -- an obvious lack of training.

Workout room ( with state of the art Life Fitness equipment) is open but not the spa. Food and beverage service is not yet available poolside .

Proximity to the domestic and international airport terminals is the the sole advantage of staying in this hotel. Since one has to contend with horrendous Manila traffic, this hotel seems like 50 miles from business and entertainment district of Makati.

Rooms are well appointed and well equipped. High speed internet is available at extra charge. The bathroom only comes with 3 towels -- very stingy for a Marriott category 4 hotel! Lastly, is very obvious that the windows of this hotel are in desperate need cleaning (see uploaded picture).

If one has to have a room very close to the airport and willing to pay top Makati hotel rates, I recommend this hotel. Otherwise, you can never go wrong by opting for either the Peninsula or the Shangri-la in Makati

We arrived as a group of 13 from Hawaii. The rooms were just opened and we were the first to stay in our rooms. The rooms were large and clean, there were a few challanges which are understandable as this hotel is NEW. If anyone knows the hotel industry or opening any business you would know that there may be a couple of things that need to be worked out. We had no complaints, especially because the employees of the hotel were the BEST in customer service with genuine care and concern.
We experienced the Velocity Bar and was impressed with the clean and artful bar. The restaurant which has a buffet was our favorite place to eat as the variety of the food was excellent and many choices.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who can appreciate being around great employees and great settings.

I stayed on the Manila Marriott just 1 week after its official "soft" opening. The hotel is located directly across from Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino Airport and has 24/7 security guards on site.

The rooms and over-all decor sport a modern contemporary feel and are fairly spacious. For Manila, this hotel is probably one of the nicer ones that you can stay at. Each room is equipped with a standing shower and soaking tub which are quite impressive at first glance however there seemed to be issues with water-run off due to poor construction and water would build up and take several minutes to drain after showering.

Another unpleasant surprise was the presence of dust build-up on the edges of the sink in the bathroom and the hall closets. This dust was clearly from the recent construction and should not have been present if the daily housekeeping was thoroughly wiping down the sink/closet every day. The dust remained there for 3 days until I finally decided to wipe it down myself.

The TVs in the rooms provide a decent selection of international news channels as well as HBO. Rooms are equipped with a modern safe, minibar, ironing board, robe, and LCD TV. However - please note that the room I was in did NOT have a clock! I'm not sure if this is the case for all the rooms but it was certainly missing in mine. Wireless internet was available in the rooms as well as the main lobby, however the speed of the connection was not very good.

The one thing which stands out the most about the hotel is the friendliness of the staff. Everyone that we encountered was incredibly accommodating from check-in to check-out and by the third day must staff members knew us by name.

Food and beverages at the hotel are quite costly and way out of synch for Manila. If you venture down the hall to the attached Maxim's Casino you will find food and drinks at a more reasonable price.

The Marriott offers a breakfast buffet with international cuisine. Its approximately $25 per person and includes items such as eggs, dumplings, fresh fruit, fresh bread, cereal, pizza, and cold cuts. Ordering a-la-carte proved to be more cost effective.

The Marriott does provide 2 bottles of local distilled water for free for consumption in the rooms which are replaced every night. This is a very important feature as the drinking water in Manila is generally unsafe for consumption.

Spa services were not yet available during our stay.

If you are traveling for business and will be having meetings in near by Makati or at the hotel this is an ideal location to stay. Unfortunately I would not recommend this hotel for non-business travelers due to its location.
