“needs improvements”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

Second stay at this hotel and no improvements since previous stay for me the hotel is going downhill fast carpets looking very worn and services such as fruit in your room not provided this time at least until I commented to a member of staff about it and they then provided some. Still expensive for Wi-Fi no free available which annoys me as a person who just needs to go online for just a couple of hours each day feel it should be provided now free or low cost as not expensive to provide.

The rooms are okay not the most comfortable of beds and pillows, but well equipped and spacious rooms though I prefer a separate shower from the bath tub otherwise bathroom a good size and nice. Carpets here looking old.

The pool is a nice size though water cold they used to provide fruit and mineral water but seem to have stopped this service however they still provide newspapers and came round with a buko ice.

Breakfast is nice a huge choice and enjoyable.

Most of the staff are very friendly professional and helpful.

The hotel provides a shuttle service to the Makati shopping malls which is useful.

It could be an excellent hotel just needs some improvements to update and also provide a few more services as I have mentioned not sure if would stay here again unless I hear this has happened. A shame really as I was fairly impressed the first visit.

Decent value for money, considering all factors.

Location is downtown, but not exactly very close to the malls and Makati main office areas (Ayala Center). There are other hotels which are located practically within the downtown malls/commercial areas, but I suspect that their pricing would be higher (Shangrila, Peninsula, Intercontinental, Dusit).

Airport pick up, drop were smooth. Upon reaching the hotel, was greeted by front-office lady at the entrance of the hotel itself, barely seconds after getting out of the car. She had my check-in papers with her and took me staright to the room, where she took my signatures. There was no need to even go to the front office desk for check in. Check out was smooth as well.

Breakfast has a wide range. Bar and other F&B are of adequate standards. Friendly staff and overall good service levels.

Wi Fi and wired internet included in tariff and excellent.

Rooms are very old fashioned. The look, furniture, furnishings & amenties are ageas behind the present day properties. Nothing is missing as such: tea-coffee maker, safe locker, weighing machine, stationery, toiletries - everything is there - but the look is dated.

Absolutely fine for a short stay.

I travel a lot both business and pleasure and one thing I have learnt is that no matter how old or new the paint in the bathroom - if the hotel has good management and the staff are well trained and understand your needs and their roles then I am happy... This hotel is the perfect example of how many other 5* hotels should do it!! I'm back in a few days time after staying one night last weekend - I'd put money on it that I will be greeted by name...

This seemed to be a very old property. The service was excellent as usual of an mandarin oriental. However I wouldn't prefer this in future because of two main reasons. This chain does not have a frequent stay program. Also though its location is central, its very inconveniently placed in the middle of always jammed up traffic. Getting a taxi at this hotel has always been a pain having to wait for at least 20 minutes every time.

Room Tip: Lower the floors, the rooms are better

I was in this hotel more than 3 years ago. The hotel has not changed much, pretty old. But the service is good. I was met by the staff and brought straight up to my room with my check in done in room. And checking out is quick. All staff in the hotel is so friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good.
I have also gone to the spa for treatment. Quite relaxing and nice ambient, though the air-conditioner in the treatment room seems not working well......

Stayed here on 2 separate occasions at the beginning of April 2013 as part of a large party of guests for a family wedding. The main downside to this hotel is the very poor check-in service, on both of our stays this process took an eternity and on the 2nd occasion the rooms (which were supposed to be available at 2pm) were still not ready at 4pm. The check-in system at this hotel is in urgent need of a review.

I stayed in a double room on the 5th floor and the size, cleanliness and facilities were excellent, although it should be noted that the decor is a bit tatty and dated and is in need of a refurb. That said the room and king size bed were very comfortable.

The pool is of a good size and the service around the pool is excellent, supplying free towels, fruit and ice lollies.

We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and I must say that the quality and choice of food was excellent.

The concierge and security staff were very welcoming and friendly and we all found them to be extremely helpful throughout our stay.

The hotel is close to the Ayala triangle, which has a good choice of simple restaurants and a 15 minute walk from a series of huge shopping malls. However, the traffic surrounding the hotel is horrendous and seemed to be in a constant state of rush hour. Recommended.

I'm going to have to start the review on a bad note. Check-in takes a ridiculous amount of time! Our party checked in twice in two weeks and both times our wait was unacceptable. However, the second time took over ONE HOUR to check us in, we were told 2 of our rooms hadn't been booked by the Mandarin, and only 2 of the other 6 were actually ready, even though it was past 4pm. However when pushed by us they were quick to offer us late check out etc as compensation.

With that out of the way, the only issue really is the age of the hotel. The exterior could use a lick of paint, and the standard rooms/jr suites could definitely do with a bit of an upgrade. Better showers and storage cabinets would go a long way to fixing this as the beds were very comfortable and the TVs were good.

The breakfast buffet is excellent, with a wide range of food from different parts of the world, and their freshly squeezed mango and orange juices are recommended. I found the staff in the restaurant quite helpful, however my wife had a poor experience when dining alone, and the staff were apparently rude and dismissive of her which I found disappointing and out of character for the hotel.

The pool facilities are great, and at certain parts of the day the hotel will bring you a complimentary ice lolly if you're sat around/in the pool which is a nice touch.

My wife and I also stayed in a suite on the 18th floor during our stay, we found this room to be excellent. Very spacious, with a sofa, a large desk, a dining table and a big flat screen TV in one room, a kitchen in another, a spacious bathroom (still with a dated shower), and in the bedroom a king sized, very comfortable bed with great views over Makati/Urdaneta. There was also a very large safe which we found convenient

I'd also like to give a special mention to Arnel and Nelson, the hotels two concierge. Very helpful, very friendly and really went that extra mile for us

Location wise it's a couple of minutes from the Ayala Triangle with some great restaurants and a nice park, a 10 minute walk from the Ayala centre (greenbelt, glorietta, SM, landmark etc) which is convenient enough, and a 5 minute walk to P Burgos and the red light district.

However one thing to keep in mind, Makati Avenue is one of the busiest roads in Makati, and even Metro Manila, and it gets VERY, VERY busy during rush hour (around 8-9am, and 5-6pm especially), and it can often end up completely gridlocked. Try and avoid travelling to the hotel between these times in a taxi, as a 5 minute journey down Makati Ave could easily take 40+ minutes
