“Nice place but spotty service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

Very nice rooms and breakfast buffet. The check-in was okay but it was extremely busy. The service at the breakfast buffet was very attentive and among the best I have experienced in my many travels in Asia. The service in the Club Lounge was not very attentive. However, the food and wines at the lounge was very good. The cleaning staff was very good as well....hung and even folded a shirt I left out.

Stayed 10 nights for business and very much enjoyed our time. Service was excellent and well-trained staff was friendly without being overbearing. Free gourmet chocolate (!) upon arrival and daily fresh fruit. Nice view from room and excellent, luxurious bathrooms.

Quality of room-service food exceeded expectations and pool area was lovely. Very nice steam room/sauna in spa and you don't have to pay extra to use it. Convenient ATM on site, good food (though not outstanding) at breakfast and dinner buffets, and Spices restaurant had a few really good dishes.

Some quibbles: continually had to sign in to access wifi, mattress was too firm for my liking, tv remote was annoying as you couldn't input channels (you just have to scroll through), the spa lacks a Jacuzzi, and getting to the Greenbelt/Glorietta shopping malls and restaurants "across the street" is very confusing at first.

The concierge was very helpful at giving directions to get there, but it's actually quite convoluted, not well marked at all, and you have to cross a busy street with no traffic lights and take an underground passageway. We got lost the first time and had to backtrack. Some signage would be very helpful.

There's also a 7/11 convenience store, grocery stores, and pharmacies in the same area - takes about 8 min. to walk there from the hotel. The Peninsula is right across the street from the Shangri-la hotel, which is rated just slightly higher on TripAdvisor. Its location allows you to access the shopping mall/restaurant area much easier and for this reason alone, we might try the Shangri-la next time.

I also tried the 60-min. "Philippine Hilot" massage for about $60 US - it was ok, but not great, and I could hear a baby crying across the hall in the changing area.

You can also expect to have your bags searched by armed security guards every time you re-enter the hotel, but at least they're friendly about it.

Despite some minor shortcomings, the Peninsula was great overall - they just need to add some guest feedback forms in the rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view and you get a great view of the city skyline.

Most welcoming check in experience despite an error in the bookings. Staff quickly and professionally resolved the problem, and was very helpful. Very well appointed rooms, clean and cozy. Location is fantastic since the hotel is just a brisk walk away to a huge mall and supermarkets. The were 2 venue choices for breakfast, and if you are up for a leisure breakfast with a big spread, opt for the restaurant venue located at the back of the hotel.

The hotel is located within walking distance of the (gigantic) shopping malls in the Ayala area, and if you enjoy staying in heritage hotels, this one is for you! It may be an old heritage building, but it's extremely well maintained, fantastic large rooms, every amenity works (yes, the radio button on the wall in the rooms actually works), the staff is very courteous, the breakfast buffet in the Escolta restaurant has a great spread, the air-conditioning is oh so welcome! The live band in the evenings is just perfect for spending a relaxed dinner on. And the best thing is that the cost is quite low for a 5 star heritage hotel! Highly recommended!

Had a very memorable experience at MlaPen. 2nights hotel staycation was a christmas gift for our sick daughter last Dec 2011. Said wish was a sort of too heavy on dpocket considering that we were financially drained that time due to daughter's illness but luckily we had a great deal package, so only child's wish was granted. During our stay I was amazed with the training of all the staff, from the step of our foot out of the car to their lobby , we were courteously assisted with a smile and greetings all over the hotel up to our room. The food was superb, lot of choices with overflowing juices. The room is old yet so tidy and spacious, linen are clean & turn down service is real. Great location, able to room around nearby places.Parking was available. Indeed, daughter enjoyed a lot thats dturning point coz we always wanted to make her happy to at least lessen the pain she suffered during those days.Great value for hard earned money.

The hotel is excellent, great facilities and lovely staff.
Unfortunately, my room (639) was next to the elevator shaft, with noise all through the night. I was just too tired for a move.
Another nuisance is the cumbersome login to the (free) Internet - why can't the network be simply open?
All in all, a great hotel, I would love to come back.
