“Pleasantly surprised-looking forward to next visit.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2012

I've been here many times over the years business and not. Stayed a handfull of times and meetings plenty more. This time I noticed some improvements. Decor upgraded. The room was much cleaner as usually we had to call for mold removal. The food options now have healthy choices to include vegetarian and vegan, loved that. The staff were really wonderful, wish all places were like this.

One of the elements of this hotel is that many locals go here to "impress" so you might have to deal with their snobbish habits and the looks sizing up your attire. That aside the lobby is lovely, the gym wonderful and I always enjoy the music.

Since this is a high end place there are sometimes protestors outside trying to get airtime on tv. Security is good although they couldn't give a straight answer-just be aware. I think they sell memberships to the gym and pool so it could get crowded. One day the pool was chaotic with obnoxious kids. The staff got after them when parents did not but this was unexpected of course. We had a difficult time getting a non smoking room and foam pillows so double and triple check.

Parking can be a bit cramped but passes are available. It is a great location and you can walk to many other things. The in house taxis are expensive but you can request a "local taxi" for better rates and they will help you sort out the driver which is nice. There is also cheaper food options within walking distance.

Since I was there for R&R I felt pressured to get to breakfast on time. Explore the building a bit, there was some great art and I found a nice quiet place by the fish pond. I left looking forward to my next visit. Property is very good for the Philippines.

My stay at the Peninsula hotel in Makati has been superb and well exceeded my expectations. I originally avoided this hotel only because of the initial price shock. After staying at two other, lower cost, hotels I say it’s worth the cost if you are staying for more than a couple of days. They have FREE WiFi which surprised me because all others charge for it. I got a package with breakfast buffet, and it’s the best breakfast I've had in the Philippines. They seem to cater to many tastes, including my own. Try the French Toast (ask them to make it for you if it’s not on the buffet) it’s amazing.

My room is in great condition. I've seen a mix of reviews of hotel furniture, but my room appeared to have furniture no more than a couple years old in excellent condition. I love the experience this hotel has to offer. My favorite part of my day is walking out of my room to the sound of live music. Some nights it’s classical, jazz, and piano among others. You just get the feeling you’re in a classy, charming, and place out of time, but with modern conveniences.

Service has been superb. I work overnight so they offered to clean my room overnight while I'm gone so I don't loose the benifit of having a refreshed room. Everyone been extreemly attentive and I can't imagine better service.

If I had any gripes, it would be the cost of laundry. I spent over $50 on a couple shirts, socks, and undergarments. This seems a bit outrageous to me. I think half that amount would even be borderline excessive, but at least would be in line with other hotels.

Highly recommended for business or pleasure.

An old Hotel with charm. Close to everything in Makati. The deluxe room was not all that deluxe.
No couch what a shame. The room was clean with an excellent view. The buffet breakfast was one of the best in Manila. Friendly staff. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Stayed on the Club floor. Rooms in the middle of the corridors away from the club are much quieter.

Although I am from the Philippines. Everytime I am home, I make sure to stay a few nights at "The Pen".

The expansive lobby is impressive with all day dining options available. Depending on the season, there will be chorales serenading during the holiday season and at night, one can enjoy to string or piano music whilst seeing Manila's elite and or just sipping your mango margarita.

Of course, the world renowned Filipino hospitaly is evident everywhere; from the all smiling doormen, all the way through the reception and all of the service personnel.
(Although, the security checking of the bags is somewhat annoying and "useless" i suppose).

The rooms have a mix of modern and tradional Filipino furnitures. Bathrooms are large and are equipped with all necessities that one would expect from a Peninsula property. You can either have the Manila skyline or the Peninsula garden/pool view from your room. Either ways, I feel "at home".

Breakfast buffet at the Escolta is a feast! You can almost have all the days worth of meals here. One can already have sushi for breakfast or have an ice cream teppanyaki. You may stay for a week and still would not be able to enjoy everything from the buffet.
On Sundays, if you are travelling with children, they convert one of their function rooms as the "childrens lounge" complete with video games, slides, buffet etc for free to the hotel guests and for those who have brunch reservations.

Makati nightlife, shopping and dining is just a stroll away. (They have recently re-opened the Salon de Ning with great music, cocktail selection and beautiful Manila peeps.)

Whatever your purpose is, you can always come back to the Manila Peninsula and can call it your home away from home. I do!

Room Tip: take advantage of the "suite life" promotion. you get a premiere or deluxe suite for good...

I've stayed here more than a couple of times. Location not as convenient as New World Hotel but service, rooms and food - much better.

Breakfast ends too early at 1030 though.

I don't have anything negative to say about the Peninsula in Manila and that's something as I'm a very demanding hotel guest. Everything was perfect when I stayed in the hotel for three nights.
The quality of service was amazing and breakfast buffet unbelievable; you can basically find anything you want, from all over the world. Fresh oysters, sushi, pancakes, whole grilled pig. You name it.
Rooms are recently renovated and furnished with local design.
Even if the hotel is in the middle of business district of a huge metropolitan city, it feels you are in a paradise when laying under the sun in hotel's beautiful garden.
It's not the cheapest hotel in Manila but really good value for money.

Stayed here for a number of years, great hotel, facilities, great service overall, like any large hotel can be snags sometimes, but are always fixed if i have to mention anything ever. public rooms areas, poolside and gym all very good. Wide variety of food options in the hotel for most tastes.
The only downside is that the standard and de luxe grade bedrooms although large are a bit tired
from a decor perspective, but the beds are fantastic, always sleep well. As a luxury 24 Hour business hotel it works for me. I think its the best business option in Makati.
Look forward to the usual warm welcome back.

Room Tip: Rooms in two big towers: never had a bad room selection
