“Great food and service, ok rooms and fairly priced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013 via mobile

This hotel as many of the reviewers comment is a little dated, though you only really notice in the bathrooms as the rooms have clearly all been updated and the bathrooms were of a high quality originally, so still OK but not of the standard in the best of hotels in Asia. Other facilities in the room, wifi, bed, tv, soft furnishing etc were all of a high standard, in fact the bed linen and pillows were crisp egyptian and very comfortable. I upgraded to the exec floor access and had complimentary breakfast and cocktails after fininshing work. It was relaxing and again of a high quality.
In terms of food I ate in the ground floor buffet restaurant, we have all eaten in these places so my expectations were not high. The first sign it was going to be different was when without a booking i struggled to get a table - they kindly opened an additional room and the place was packed, great atmosphere and excellent food. I was very impressed.
The service from the staff was responsive, polite and yet unintrusive, there was a can do, service orientated attitude.
What shocked me most however was on checkout, my bill for two nights in an exec room, airport transfer, two meals with a colleague, wine and beer etc was £500 - hardly expensive as others have indicated.....

Not at the standard of other Shangri-La properties, dated and a bit warn, but the breakfast and dinner buffets at Circles, housekeeping services and room are fine. I stayed 6 nights, had rapid airport transfer, in-room checkin, no staff interference, and good sound insulation. I was working long hours and was thankful to have a property within walking distance of major MNC locations. Price is a bit high but the service levels and staff are worth it. I would return without a second thought.

Room Tip: Don't waste money on the club floor. The room size is consistent on other floors, and the extra...

I am writing this review after having stayed at Shangri-La Makati more than 30 nights over the past two years, with the most recent stay just a few days ago - and I am writing this review to highlight a few things I really like, and others that really irritate me.

Overall, the Makati Shangri-la is a safe choice in Makati - and, with the exception of the new Fairmont - the only real option in the high-end segment: the Penninsula has a grand lobby, but terribly low ceilings and old rooms on the guest room floors, and the Mandarin has wonderful staff (probably the best of the top-end in Makati), and the best live music bar, but the rooms are just terribly outdated, and overal the guest room floors are really run-down and in dire need of refurbishment. Overall, the lack of real competition in the high-end segment in Makati is evident, in price/value and overall quality. Intercontinental and Dusit are even less attractive

Back to Makati Shang - the positive
- large-size rooms - really spacious, incl. the bathrooms
- good beds, good lightning - incl. the nightlight feature
- decent working desk
- excellent spread for breakfast in main restaurant, though quality is a bit variable
- nice Club lounge, with two good (smaller) meeting rooms, and a good breakfast- and evening cocktail spread (free for club rooms, or diamond members)
- overall friendly, helpful staff - generally professional
- effective (and compared to other hotels / car companies) acceptably priced car rental service
- greatklocation, quick to get onto EDSA, a,d within walking distance (and safe to walk) of tons of good restaurants in Greenbelt, and nearby other
On the irritating side
- there is virtually zero recognition factor - even after so many stays reception staff would follow standard protocols at check-in / checkout... while at other hotels, in particular in Bangkok or Hong Kong they would not even ask for credit cards, passports, ... Any more, but just have the key ready on arrival - knowing that the details are either same, or they would just kindly ask for the, e.g., arrival card no in Thailand in the room
- check-in / out are generally overall slow, with a lot of steps the staff seems to have to go through
- the working desks are good, but the power plugs on the desk are unsuitable (due to location in desk) for many plugs, and often as a result totally worn out...
- the room service food quality is generally low, to very low ( while the restaurants are actually OK - thoughtless good than, e.g., Paparrazi at EDSA Shangri-La)
- the Internet connection is free, but PAINFULLY slow - a real test of patience, and limits using more interactive features
- the service and speed of service for, e.g., coffee or eggs is erratic - sometimes great, sometimes terrible

So - if there would be a real alternative this would clearly not be my first choice - but in lack of anything better it's a good, reliable choice. Just wish they would benchmark their levels of service and efficiency with real 5* Asian Hotels....

We spent 4 nights at the Makati Shangri-La.
The hotel is a typical 5-star location with a lot of staff everywhere, stunning entrance hall, a beautiful lobby area and good sized rooms with an enormous king size bed.
The location is excellent, right in the heart of Makati and close to the various shopping malls and greenbelt (all within walking distance).
The service unfortunately is not really 5-star. The check-in took us 20 minutes despite having made an online booking entering all the passport details!!! In the Buffet Restaurant near the Lobby you wait endlessly until you get served and last, but not least our room was only made up after 3pm!
We do not mind paying a high price (which you do at the Shangri-La), but then you expect an excellent service in all areas of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room high up (26th floor) where you can get a great view of Makati!

I enjoyed for the second time the excellent facilities, the hospitality and the superb services of the personnel in Makati Shangri-La, Manila, Philippines.

The good experience starts with a limousine pick up at the Airport and prompt delivery to the hotel, check-in happens as in a dream, so that the guest can relax and concentrate on more pleasant things in life...
And this experience continues throughout the whole stay and ends with the same service to the airort.

Try it, it's worth the money!

I have stay in this hotel a couple times. My first stay was July 2011 for about 4-5 days on business trip. Since that time, I always choose Makati Shangri-La for my stay in Manila/Makati Philippines.

The hotel staff were lovely, especially if you are member of Golden Circle :)
My latest stay on the hotel was on September 2012, they even provide me a better services by serving a bottle of red wine and some local fruits daily - I don't know if the wine is daily or not, as I did not drink it, but the fruits are daily and they provide based on your preferences.

The room is quite good, with big LCD screen and clean bath room. There are two things that I don't like, first one is the bathtub, as it is looks quite old (even though it is clean), and the second one is the water in the bathtub. The water tap in the bathtub will give you a dirty water in the first 30 to 60 second. you need to let the water go, clean the bathtub with clean water, then fill it again with clean water. I don't know if that's only a problem on specific room or not. Usually I did not get this experience on all of my previous stays in the hotel.
If you are not fans of bathtub, you might be happy (as I am) to find that this hotel is also provide you a quite good shower corner.

Laundry services were good, as I found in other 5 stars hotel.

Breakfast, for food lover like me, is consider as good. they provide you with - what they called - a healthy juice, a mix of fresh vegetables and fruit juice with the description on the benefits of the juices.
Also, you will find quite good quality of food here. however, if you stay for more than 1 week, you might feel sick as the menu were rarely being changes... for me, I am ok with it... not really a problem... but for picky person like my colleagues, he feel bored on the menu on his second week of stay...
The staff of restaurant is ok, nothing special, but during busy breakfast hour, they are slow to provide you with your requirements, such as extra honey or else.. you have to asked couple times before they give you what you want. I think it will be better if the hotel management can add more staff on the restaurant during busy breakfast hour.

overall, it was an enjoyable stay! will I go back there? For sure, YES!

Have been staying at the Makati Shangri La for 10 years, returned recently to stay for 1 night, the rates have risen considerably as it is one of the most expensive hotels I've stayed in. the service & rooms are great, all food outlets good service & quality. shame about the price as the hotel is starting to show its age.
