“Overpriced, unpleasant, NO HOT SHOWER”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

Slow service, expensive restaurant/room service with below average food, noisy window-type air conditioners, and NO HOT SHOWER. When I complained about the cold water, NOTHING was done for 2 days. When I mentioned this at check in, NOTHING was said, except by the person beside me who did not have hot water in his shower for 5 days. NEVER AGAIN!

Room Tip: Don't stay here if you want a hot shower.

We had stayed here several times for our visits to Manila since 2009 and they were pleasant. But this was not the case during our most recent stay. When we went to the make-shift café in the morning for breakfast, we were met by a grumpy looking staff named Tess, who did not acknowledge when we handed her the meal coupons even though we greeted her. Besides, I had to hunt for a table in the café for my family of three. This is contrary to the Filipino hospitality which we were accustomed to. If a simple smile and a “thank you” are so hard to come by, then she should not be placed in frontline position. It just spoiled our day. After breakfast, we requested to speak to the F & B Manager so that our next few days could be more accommodating. We waited for twenty minutes in the lobby before supervisor Rommel finally appeared. When we spoke to him regarding the matter, he requested that we would go to the A Venue Hotel beside every morning (apparently under the same management) to have our breakfast instead so that we would be rendered an acceptable level of service and to avoid the staff with an attitude, which we did. During the first three days of our stay, my six year-old son who hardly eat anything for breakfast was allowed to be with us at the café, but was told that he had to be charged for the rest of our stay. We requested to speak to supervisor Rommel again the following day during breakfast but was informed that he was having his break and therefore was not available to speak to us unless we are willing to wait. Not wanting him to have any of the café’s greasy, salty and overcooked food, we decided to bring him some healthier snacks instead for breakfast. Overall, the hotel is clean since it's relatively new with close proximity to the business district despite the horrendous traffic, but it is definitely not family-friendly. There are better choices in Makati but if you are willing to put up with incompetent staff with attitudes and enjoy the red-light district in the vicinity, then this is the place for you.

I have stayed at the Best Western Plus Antel Hotel / A Venue Suites 6 times over the past 18 months, the last being Nov. 2012. I have always received friendly courteous service from the staff in both towers. I have not been required to wait for my room when checking in or for my bags to be delivered upstairs. Keeping in mind I have also been checking in late in the evening and not in the middle of the day. The Antel complex is now made up of 3 different buildings and the reviews may vary building to building. I have stayed in both the A Venus ( 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom units) and in the "Plus" tower (studio, 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom). All of the units have been compact and clean. I personally prefer the 1 bedroom unit as there is a little more personal space and keeping the bedroom and living space separate is a plus for me. The major construction that has been on going for the past 18 months on the 3rd tower has been completed and I found no construction noise bothering me during the day. I do believe there is internal work going on in the Serenity Tower (3rd Tower) itself and may be disturbing to some people during the day. Each of the 2 towers I stayed in had their own small gym, swimming pool and cafe. I alway went to the A Venue tower for breakfast. Better selection. The unlimited wifi access is a plus. It can run a little slow at times. When you are booking I would suggest looking at the Best Western site as well 3rd party sites like Agoda or Hotels.com to check rates. They can vary.
The Toccare Spa is located on the 4th floor of the "Plus" tower. The manager Miss Anna is very accommodating and runs a very neat, clean well organized spa. I highly recommend it.
The location of the complex is perfect. Located on the edge business district makes for easy access to any area of the Makati area. By Taxi to the Greenbelt / Glorietta shopping complex is only 100 Php and Greenhills outlet mall is150 Php. Both of these shopping areas are flooded with Restaurants which will satisfy anyones pallet. Across the street from the hotel is a large SM Supermarket, Money Exchange and restaurants.
I will stay here the next time I am back in Makati area.

I stayed one night before returning to the U.S. I booked this room only three days before I arrived and was not expecting much actually. Being from the U.S. and knowing Best Western properties in the states are pretty middle of the road (Sorry Best Western). All the cab drivers knew it as "Antel".

For the price (~ $70 U.S.) it was a huge space, essentially a suite with two TV's, two A/C units. full kitchen and nice desk and couch with separate bedroom. I was in tower A Venue in the main bldg. I used the gym which was nice as well. The pools liked good as well.

For me it worked well and not too far from the airport as I flew out the next morning. I would recommend this area (over Ermita) unless you really want to be surrounded by working women and guys trying to sell you viagra extra two blocks.

It was not far from a very nice mall with lots of cool restaurants etc. I will stay there again if I go to Manila for a stayover stop. Cheers.

Room Tip: A Venue tower!

This review is for the Antel A.Venue tower, 2 stays in November. This hotel may be part of Best Western but is under own management
We booked directly over their website, got a good price. Location is fantastic, just up a bit from the greenbelt area on makati avenue. there are lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars very close to the hotel.
When we checked in it took forever for our luggage to arrive in the room. In the room, 2 main lights were broken, the sink blocked and the shower faucet came out of the wall.

Went to breakfast one morning, I think it was on day 5, so everyone knew us already when i accidentally brought the breakfast vouchers with the wrong date on them. We were refused entry to the restaurant by Rommel, the supervisor although i said i bring them back later and later on my wife was harassed at the buffet, a filipina waitress trying to drag her away out of the restaurant although we gave them the vouchers already. The restaurant supervisor Rommel apologized and tried to suck up the next days for this incident by making me spacial coffee etc but only for me but not for my wife! Being treated so rudely and disrespectfully is just so wrong!

Another morning there were chicken wings served for breakfast. They were all raw inside with red blood dripping out of them! Yuk! Again Rommel apologized and tried to suck up to me, bringing me coffee from cappuccino machine...but only for me but not for my wife!

Next day we wanted to go to the pool at 4pm. I had to ask 5 people and wait 25mins to get some towels. Once swimming there were 6 staff members, all male standing at the side of the pool and staring at my wife, perving!
But thats not all, once we left the pool, one of the guys approached us and demanded his towels back! I didn't give them back, cant put your clothes on over wet bikini or go in swimming gear to your room. After that he told us that we have to use the service elevator behind the storerooms to get back to our floor. After waiting for 5 minutes between rubbish in a filthy corridor we decided to take the stairs back up to our room.

Another incident is also our fault but i mention it anyway. My wife must have forgotten to hold the door shut when closing the safe but when we came back, the safe door was open and some money missing. I reported it to the hotel manager, he promised to check cctv footage and investigate and to give me a report first thing in the morning. I never heard of him again.

Toiletpaper in the rooms didnt get filled up every day so we had to call houskeeping to provide us with a roll of paper twice! Minibar was also not refilled or only partially sometimes.
One of the 2 elevators was broken most of the time so it was faster to climb the staits than to wait half an hour for the elevator.
We extended out stay for one day and had to pay another 3500 peso 'security fee" for that one day which is till don't have back, 2 weeks later.
Overall, a very disappointing experience, mainly because of terrible staff and bad management. I'm just very surprised that a Best Western Hotel can be so bad...

Room Tip: avoid corner rooms, cramped and small.

For the business traveller that needs to do work from the room it is not great, there is a very small table in the room(Serenity Tower Studio Suite) which is too small for a laptop and any paperwork to share the space. There are no power outlet anywhere near the table which means having a fully charged laptop battery is a necessity. Not outlet near the bed so charging the phone overnight and using it as an alarm is out of the question. Rooms are small however comfortable, location is OK however Makati Ave traffic down this end can be bad, most taxi's do not know where it is. Room service food was nice and is delivered in good time.

This was my first time stay here, seems to be a good hotel however not business friendly. Just to qualify my comments, I spend more than 200 days on the road in Asia mostly for business so the ability to work comfortably in a room is number one priority for me.
