Our docent was a great historian and had much to share about William Seward. Interesting man. Purchasing Alaska was his great idea!

“Perhaps the most interesting historical house in the country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2014

The home of William Seward ("Seward's folly", Lincoln's cabinet) amazes because it is just as he left it when he died. Most "historic houses" are quite different when from when they were lived in. Not this one. His heirs changed nothing. To walk through Seward's house is to encounter our history precisely as it was lived. Even the books in the book cases remain. This is one house you'll enter unprepared for and leave enthralled.

“treasures from the past”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

Hidden in the sleepy town of Auburn, is the home of Seward, with years of period pieces from a by gone era. Learn of Seward's political heritage, on a guided tour of the mansion. A most interesting time capsule

“Abe Lincoln's BFF”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2014

A visit to the Seward House can change your view of American History as you learn about Presidential Elections; The Civil War; women's roles in the 1800's; the purchase of Alaska; and the interesting relationships between Abraham Lincoln and William H. Seward. A gen of a house with well-placed early/Victorian household items and decorations. A nice scenic garden as well. If you can. take one of the special tours or come for First Friday.

“Important, accessible historical site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2014

The Seward House is a small gem. It tells the story of an important time in American history through the artifacts of the family of Lincoln's Secretary of State and a would-be president.
