“A real value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2010

This charming old Hotel has been modernized in a way that adds to its charm. Everything worked (except the TV was fuzzy). The hotel is conveniently located one block from the Plaza de Armas and the Central Business District. I am sure the location would be quiet most of the year, but we were there during election campaigns and the rallies on the Plaza blasted late into the night. We loved the facilities, and the staff and the service they gave us.

I stayed here as part of a tour group on our way to see Lake Titicaca. The hotel is central in the town of Puno, furnishings are of a good standard, beds are comfortable with good pillows. The showers were only luke warm at all times I used them but generally this was a secure, decent hotel compared with some we experienced in Peru. There were two main sticking points. The first was that the reception staff could speak next to no English and could only understand room numbers and hence sorting simple things out required much effort and sometimes help from our spanish speaking guide. In a hotel of this size and quality I would expect a little more. The second was the noise at night which is due in part to it´s centrality but also we stayed over the election campaigns which involved loud raleighs and car horn sounding late into the evening so this is unlikely to be representative.
Overall, it was an ok place to stay for a couple of nights, no more. Breakfast is an extra S./15 for a buffet- much better to eat at one of the bakeries or cafes nearby. Internet access is free in reception but unreliable.

Central location but the room windows don't isolate well, so it's noisy also during night. Your bathroom should not lead to the street but only inside, as the bathroom windows are not closing and therefore you'll have not only all the noise from the streets but it will (almost) freeze overnight (the nights in Puno are cold!). The staff is medium-motivated, quite distant, doing what is necessary but not more.

3 star hotel in the center of Puno. We walked in from the bus station with a hotel tout who was showing us around different hotel. I think the occupancy at the hotel was quite low which is why they entertained our bargaining and we were able to bring them down to $35/night. The other hotels we had seen were in the price range of about $30 or so and were quite old and dusty in comparison. The Casona Plaza on the other hand seems like a spanking new property with clean rooms and bathrooms. The water is hot (a necessity in Puno in winters) and like any 3 star hotel worth its salt you get nice fluffy towels and a hair dryer.

There were 3 computers in the lobby that can be used for free, the breakfast was adequate. The location of the hotel is very central with the restaurants, bars, money changers within a short walking distance. The boat quay on the other hand is quite far off (~2km) through a poor part of town and if you plan to do the Lake Titicaca trips independently you would need some sort of a transport to get you back to town in the evening.

We were transferred by our tour company to the Casona Plaza Hotel as our original hotel was unavailable. We stayed for a total of two nights and within that time we had two different rooms.

The first night was problem free, the only concern was the breakfast offered, we were unsure if it was the time of the morning (8am) but unfortunately there was not a lot of options. On the second day the breakfast was a lot better.

The problems began on the second night, the television did not work and in all fairness the reception staff did attempt to fix the television but without success. We requested a new room but were told no by reception staff and informed it was an issue for all hotel guests.

We were leaving the next day and required a late check out but after requesting 3 times were told no every time with no explanation. The worst part of the stay was when I noticed a blood stain on the top sheet, it was located at the top of the sheet near my partner's head. My partner was very upset and took the sheet to hotel staff who were shocked and replaced the sheet immediately. I believe a blood stain should be picked up when making the bed or cleaning the sheet in the first place.

The toilet in the bathroom was leaking which covered the floor, this leak came with a horrible smell.

Overall we are not fussy travellers, we expect a clean hotel (room) and decent service, our stay at the Casona Hotel was not a positive experience especially because of the cleanliness and service.

The location of the hotel is excellent and we have to say that one member of staff (porter) was extremely friendly and he stuck out as a staff member who provided great customer service.

Firstly, there isn't much to do in Puno apart from using the city as a base for visiting Lake Titikaka. This hotel is centrally located as you can walk to the main restaurants and along the main street, and it is spacious but a little dated. The beds are comfotable and there is good cable reception in each room, and there are 3 computers in the lobby for the internet. The breakfast buffet is OK. The front desk booked our trip to Uros and Taquile (good service and the same rate as any agency) and even organised a driver for a 1/2 day visit to Chicuito and then on to the airport.

Rooms are clean, spacious and really nice. Staff is very helpful. Nice buffet breakfast and good internet connection, free wireless and they have some computers available for free.
Location is perfect.
They arrange our tour to Uros Islands and Taquile Iland and we were highly satisfied with it, just for 35 soles each person.
Warning for those travelling to Juliaca airport: You can take a taxi (70 soles or $23) or a colectivo from Rossy Company (15 soles). Obviously the second one is cheaper but even if hotel staff arrange pick up with them at specific time they won´t leave until they are almost full and they pick up in other parts in Puno, we almost arrive late, 35 minuntes before departing time, and we arranged pick up 2 hours and a half before departing time.
