“ok place to stay but....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

This place is quite basic, but the bed was really comfortable. Unfortunately, our room was just off the lobby and had no windows. They do a good pizza in the lobby area and the breakfast is adequate.

The real disappointment with this place though, was that we are pretty sure that one of the hotel staff stole my partners mobile phone. For that reason I wouldn't recommend this place which is a shame.

Our room was big with a large bathroom but the furnishings are dated and it was very cold. There was a small ineffective electric heater that took all night to heat the room. The whole hotel was cold!! If you didn't get to breakfast before the morning rush you would have limited items and it was already very basic!!! It's a short walk to the main square and to all the restaurants. Much like all the other Casa Andina Classic hotels. I wouldn't book with this hotel chain again.

The Casa Andina in Puno is located only 2 blocks from the main tourist street where all the restaraunts, bars and clubs are. However, it is on a dark and somewhat rough, dirty street. That being said - basically as soon as you leave the one main tourist street in Puno, all of the streets are dark, rough and dirty. The hotel itself is fine - basic - but clean and comfortable. There is no elevator, so if you are on an upper floor, and have not yet adjusted to the altitude, the climb up the stairs can make you breathe hard! The high point of the hotel is the staff - in particular we had a good experience with Jesus at the front desk. He spoke very good english, and was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area. A lot of times when you ask hotel staff a question like ' what pizza restaurant do you recommend', they say something like 'they are all good', or 'the pizza in this hotel is good'. Jesus was not like that. When we asked for a recommendation, he provided several well advised options, which we very much appreciated.

Casa Andina hotels have all the things you need plus things you're hoping to get-like a good breakfast (arrive early) and quality customer service. Our double twin room was a little cramped and it did get cold at night even with heat. The location really can't be beat, though. Just a few blocks from the train station, main street with the shops and restaurants and beyond that, the plaza and ATMs. Only hassle is the one way street out front, but everyone knows where this hotel is, so you won't have any problems there. You're going to get a good nights sleep here, that is, if you can breathe due to the altitude!

On a 6 week trip to S.America we have stayed in many of this chain. Our recent experience in Puno impressed us even more than the others. The hotel staff organised a Dr. early in the morning who returned to check on my wife and ordered medicine. We kept our room on and they sorted out documents for the insurance as we missed a trip. Thank you especially to Amidey, Veronica and Kyhara who looked after us both so well. We love each individual style we have found. Andy and Sue. UK

Room Tip: 3rd floor may be quieter away from lobby and restaurant.

We stayed here for two nights in May. The hotel is centrally located near the main square (10 mins walk). Its near the main shopping and local bars. We arrived and were greeted by a nice staff member who spoke very good english. An excellent introduction to the hotel and the local amenities was given. The bell boy carried the bags to the room which is fortunate as there is NO lift / elevator. We stayed on the first floor. The rooms are sparely decorated and are a little basic. The bed is comfortable, with fresh linen. The bathroom is reasonably sized and the show was powerful. The breakfast is basic and it gets very busy as many of the tours to the floating islands and Taquile leave at 6:30. Overall very good value for the price that we paid.

Room Tip: As the dining are is close to the stairs. A room on the 2nd floor might be advisable as the noise t...

We stay 2 nights in this nice hotel.

Advantages:
The hotel is clean, comfortable, has a safe in the room, nice breakfast, hot water and is quiet at night. After 2 blocks (1-2 min walking) the main street is starting with shops, restaurants and bars. The hotel stuff are friendly and could speak english very well.

Disadvantages:
The hotel helps not for tour bookings or bus tickets. Big travel groups are staying in the hotel, which could be busy early in the morning, when you going on a tour. In this case, do not take a room an the ground floor. We could change immediately, that was no problem for the hotel stuff.

Recommendation: Yes!!!

Room Tip: In the case of the big travel groups, do not take a room an the ground floor. We could change immedi...
