“A little out of the way but clean and no rugs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

We found this to be a lovely hotel. Very clean and one of the few places that did not have rugs. They have a large buffet in the morning, that had a nice selection. The hot water took a few minutes to arrive but plenty once it started to come. You had to take a taxi to get here but the views were beautiful and it was very quiet area.

Puno is an ugly, dirty city. There are lots of little hotels of low to moderate quality in the heart of the city, but we decided to stay on the outskirts near the lake. Eco Inn was incredibly affordable, so we weren't sure what to expect. Once we arrived in Puno and saw the shape of things, we were immediately happy with our decision. Don't get me wrong, the area around the Plaza de Armas is decent with some nice restaurants and bars, but we were happy to take the $4 cab ride back to the Eco Inn at the end of the night. The Eco Inn seems relatively new and is very well maintained. We found the staff to be exceedingly friendly and they went above and beyond to help us out when we had questions. The cab ride into town is about five minutes and, as I mentioned, a fixed 10 Soles (currently about $4). We never had to wait more than five minutes for a cab after notifying reception. In summary, while this is simply your average clean, comfortable hotel, with the town of Puno and it's other lodging offerings as a backdrop, I give Eco five stars. I would easily stay here again if I ever find myself in Puno again.

Room Tip: Ask for the second floor facing the lake.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel in May 2013
Not a bad hotel, but not memorable. The rooms and the food were ok.
The Lobby was a bit small and next to the open kitchen of the restaurant.
We had to be in the lobby for a few hours since we had to take a bus late at night. This was not very pleasant.

Most people who travel to Puno (not famous as a cultural hub or party town) do so to access lake Titcaca. This means that where your hotel is located is not that important, which is why I think this hotel is great It is located a ten minute cab journey out of the main town, on the lake with stunning views. It is an 8 soles (£2) cab journey from the centre area and you can quickly have a cab ordered by the hotel to get to the bus station or the dock.
As a result of Puno being a quiet, periphal town, and this hotel being located just outside, it is extremely good value for money. It's called an 'Eco Hotel' but to be honest this moniker doesn't really make any difference to you as a guest, although you do get to view the Llama pen while you eat your breakfast. Our modern room had two double beds, was spacious, with an excellent bathroom, beautifully quiet, and impeccably clean, flat screen TV, etc...I have had 4* rooms that weren't as nice. There is a wood burning fire in the reception area, and free internet access.
The only major drawback is that being located out of the town you are a captive audience in terms of food and drink, and as a result the restaurant is undoutedly overpriced (so if you spend any tiime in the town it might be an idea to stock up). The breakfast, included during our stay, was however very good. The staff are very sweet but speak very little Englilsh and it was a bit of a battle to communicate even on very basic things (and yes I know, my Spanish is non-existent).
Also, whatever you do, don't get the hotel's day trip to Uros and Taquille: at $50 a head, it's about four times more expensive than just pitching up at the dock at 7.30am and jumping on a boat there for 25 soles (which you can do just about any day of the week).
However, I would 100% recommend this place to a friend.

Rooms are big enough with good matress but the hotel, although if it is outside of the town, is very noisy. Impossible to sleep in the morning because of doors slaming and you can hear a compressor ( maybe from the kitchen) the whole night long.
Breakfast is good and service could be improved. The restaurant of the hotel is too expensive for what you get in your plate.

Whilst this hotel is a long way from the centre of Puno, it's quiet location and tranquil setting allow it to be a great place to unwind. Our room was fairly basic, but the beds were comfortable and the food excellent. The staff were pleasant and the tame alpacas in the garden were a joy.

This hotel is modern and overlooks Lake Titicaca. However it is at least 15 mins drive from the centre of Puno so if you would prefer to be near restaurants I would not recommend this hotel. However the room was comfortable. We had a meal included at this hotel which was not great. On the first night we were able to get all channels on our t.v. but the next day the cleaner had messed about with the t.v. so we could only get one or two channels. It took two calls to reception to get the t.v. working again as the first member of staff who came was unable to fix it.

Room Tip: get a room overlooking the lake
