“The Wonderful Andes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

The Andes just kept on getting better. Taquile Island was a highlight of our whole trip. Did a full day tour of the Lake which included Taquile Island. Was a long boat ride out but well worth the journey, stopping off at Uros along the way. Our 3 week trip around Peru was organized by Uncover Latin America, our whole trip was very well organized with great guides in each location. We stayed in some comfortable hotels, the Casa Andina Private in Lake Titicaca was more than comfortable. We had a room with a view of the Lake.

“Felt like Alps near by ocean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

The Island was very clean and has feeling like walking Alps. Our tour offered us to eat at a local family's home/restaurant and that was very nice idea. To do so, locals can get more income and tourists can feel like invited a villager's home.
The only disappointment was the textile selling in village was very insignificant. I read in a guidebook explained the island's textile is exquisite. But look like those are sold to shops in other towns and not available in Taquille Island.

“A long trek across the lake then up a very steep hill...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

...eventually you get to meet Taquile islanders! The lake trip was long - several hours each way - but we were glad we did it. We stopped off at the Uros reed islands first - very different from Taquile which is a 'proper' rock island. The walk up from the boat is very steep (you are at altitude too) and in hot sun it was hard work. The people are shyer than Uros but still friendly. The costumes are marvellous whether just for tourists or not! The walk back is a long slope downwards across to the far side of the island - quite a way and steep again at the end - take lots of water with you!

“Beautiful views at Taquile Island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

Very long boat ride (2.5 hours each way). Specatular views on the island. If you do not like to walk up hills at high elevation, do not do this tour. 1.8km hike back to boat. Loved the walk. Lunch served is Trout. Interesting culture.

“Taquile Island is like paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

What a special island Taquile is. We walked up to the plaza from the little harbour. Simplicity and not too touristy, it was like a Greek island without all the foreigners. Lots of crafts available there, we had a lovely meal of Trucha (trout) and a cold Cusqueña.
