“Needs a face lift”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

My wife and I stayed here 2 nights and we couldn't wait to leave. This hotel gets an average rate from me and is really not a five star at all. When we arrived to our room and opened the door, we walked right out and down to the lobby to see about a bigger room as the one they gave us would not fit me and my wife and our luggage. They kindly gave us a bigger room for an extra 100 usd per night but it had a slopping ceiling which still made it feel small but the extra living room helped. Both my wife and I did not get a good night sleep both nights and found out from our guide that this hotel use to be a prison. Our second night we decided to order room service which they screwed up, but I do have to say the lobby bar with fire place was a nice place to hang out and the bar staff were nice and always with a smile. As far as I'm aware, their are no other superior hotels in the area and the Libertador chain are excellent and we stayed in others while in Peru, but this one needs a face lift.

All rooms have either the city across the bay or Puno bay views , rooms are a bit dated and toilets too small . Good food at the restaurant though . Location rather remote so you need a taxi to get into town but if u are visiting just the islands then the hotel has its own pier so it's convenient ....

Room Tip: The rooms with even numbers have a great view !

Stayed at the Libertador for 2 nights and enjoyed the view of Lake Titicaca and the spectacular sunrise and the food at the Uros restaurant.
The rooms are small, a little cramped and outdated, but still comfortable with good temperature control.
The staff seemed a little reserved and not very friendly but service at the Uros restaurant was very good. We had dinner and breakfast both days and enjoyed the appetizers, the Kingfish and Trout. The presentation of each dish was exquisite. We were told that the Peruvian chef had been trained in Europe and it certainly seemed like it. The breakfast buffet was the best we had had in the whole of Peru.
The wi-fi connection in the rooms are very, very slow, but down in the lobby and bar area it was great.
I must add that the sales girl at the little gift shop doesn't seem very motivated and enthusiastic to make a sale. She sits behind the counter and seems quite disinterested. Wrong personality especially for someone in sales!!!
Overall we enjoyed our stay very much and highly recommend the hotel, especially the food at the Uros restaurant.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room facing East so you can watch the spectacular sunrise.

Nice hotel with lots of upside potential, from a physical aspect. A bit dated, but nothing a good designer couldn't easily and fairly economically remedy.

Good food in the restaurant and a generous and diverse breakfast buffet. Comfortable rooms with a killer view over Lake Titicaca. Fairly inconvenient location removed from the center of town, but having seen Puno briefly, didn't feel we missed anything.

Coca tea always available and complimentary oxygen promptly delivered to the room as needed -- much appreciated! Sonia, on the front desk, was a god-send when we needed help finding a quick flight out to a lower elevation, owing to the high altitude. She absolutely saved our vacation!

Room Tip: The higher the room, the better the view. Sunrise over the lake is not to be slept-through!

Arrived in the evening after the long train ride from Cusco for a 3 night stay. A light bite in the bar was fine for supper. Opened the curtains the next morning to a really spectacular sunrise, before heading out for the islands tours. The breakfast buffets were very good. Service at the front desk, for a couple of requests, was timely and responsive. I guess my main complaint was when a large tour group arrived (very loud guests) who continued to party and make lots of noise until 1:30 am. We were in room 412, right at the elevators, so we could hear everything from the open lobby below. Loved being on the upper floor for view, but would have much preferred to be on either end of the hallway because of the noise.

My wife and I spent two nights here while on holiday. The hotel is located about 15 minutes' taxi ride from the town centre in a very attractive setting which gives fabulous views over Lake Titicaca. Although the hotel itself is not particularly attractive and somewhat lacking in charm we found it very comfortable with good facilities and excellent service. We also thought that the food in the restaurant was very good although rather expensive. From talking to other travellers and other reviews this seems to be one of the best options available in Puno.

After a very long day, we were pleased to arrive at this hotel. The altitude had started to upset people and the hotel was always ready with oxygen and coca tea. The rooms however were a little disappointing and on the small side. There was only just enough room at the end of the bed and this was not helped by a large air conditioning unit standing there too. But the view of Lake Titicaca at sunrise (all rooms have a view of the lake) was breathtaking. The building is slightly incongruous and people thought I had taken pictures of a cruise ship as it is long and white and flat. It needs a few more curves !! breakfast was extremely good with the best guacamole I have ever tasted !! When it was good it was very very good, and when it let you down, it did so with a bump !
