“Lake kayaking & Amantani Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2012

During our stay in Peru I really wanted to kayak on Lake Titicaca. I had heard good things about All the Ways Travel on the Peru forum of TA however, I could not find much info from anyone who had done the kayaking, so hopefully this will help others:) We flew in from Cusco to Juliaca & arranged for the company to pick us up there & take us to Llachon. Llachon is the only place on the Peru side of the lake you can kayak from. It is about 1.5 hours from Julica or Puno. Our driver and guide picked us up in a comfortable mini van. They even made stops at the ATM (the one at the airport was broken) and at the grocery store ( to pick up a gift for our host family & some snacks) before taking us on to Llachon. Our guide was Heber Mamani and he was wonderful & spoke great English! In Llachon we stayed in the home of Valentin Quispe. His home is very nice by Peruvian standards. Our room was separate from the main house & had its own bathroom with indoor plumbing & electricity. Heber took us up to the main square that evening, as the town was celebrating its anniversary & we watched the dancing and music. It was locals only and a very authentic feeling experience. That evening we had a wonderful dinner in Valentin Quispe house. It was truly one of the best meals of our entire stay in Peru (chicken, potatoes, carrots, bread, rice, soup & chocolate pudding). I had been really worried about getting cold during the night with no heat but it really wasn't a problem. With wool long johns and all the blankets on the bed I was quite comfy, even during bathroom trips. The next morning we had a breakfast of different breads and hot tea before kayaking. They have top notch gear for kayaking. The kayaks are like new & you are also fitted with waterproof jackets and a waterproof kayak skirt. Tip: Even if it is cold in the morning don't wear more then a long sleeve shirt. The jackets they give you block all the wind & with the effort of kayaking you will roast. I am ALWAYS cold & I got hot with a fleece on under my jacket . Once you have your skirt on & are on the water your really can't take layers off. We kayaked for about 3 hours to Amantani island (Tequille Island is closer if you want a shorter paddle). We set the pace and never felt rushed by Heber. We stopped on the water about half way there and had a snack. We do not kayak often so the paddle was a good challenge but still fun for us. Remember at this high of an altitude you will tire more quickly. There is a large motor boat that follows at a nice distance if anyone is having any problems so you never have to worry. Once on the island we had a nice lunch at one of the local homes & then climbed to the top of the island to enjoy the view. Heber is from Amntani so we learned a lot about the island from him. During the entire time we were on the island we did not see any other tourists. After visiting the island we could chose to kayak back or take the boat back to Llachon. We chose the 1.5 hour boat ride! We were just too tired from the morning paddle & the hike. The boat was nice, it was enclosed & had couches. Since we were the only ones on the boat & it was so comfy we actually slept the entire way back to Llachon! Back in Llachon we packed up & the van picked us up to take us to Puno for the night where we had arranged our own accommodations. All Ways travel dropped us off at our hotel where we then paid for our trip. It was a wonderful experience. Cost: tours with ALL Ways Travel do cost more, but you get what you pay for and the best thing about this company is that they make sure the local people are receiving a fair wage for your visit. All that said this was by far the most expensive activity of our trip totaling $625 US dollars for the 2 of us.The transportation to and from Llachon being the costliest part at $125 each way. No matter the number of people in your party 1-6. Meals and lodging were $35 dollars per person for 1 night & 3 meals. The guide was $55 for the entire trip and the kayaks & boat were $125 each for the day. Bringing the total to $625. I felt the rates for everything except for the transportation were very fair. There just is no other way to get to Llachon except private transportation that I know of. If you are traveling with children or in a larger group the transportation costs would be less noticeable. This is definitely an activity I would feel comfortable taking children on. With the motor boat near & the high quality gear you know everyone is safe. This is truly a great company trying to help the local people. Hope this is helpful!

“A life changing experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2012

This was the best tour I have ever done, and I mean ever! We took the the 2 day tour, visiting the floating Uros Islands, staying the night on Amantani and then Taquile the next day. The entire experience was fascinating, eye opening and made so much more enjoyable and accessible by Victor. He was an attentive, thoughtful and enthusiastic tour guide who was passionate about looking after us and helping to improve the lives of the Amantani people.

We visited the Uros first of all and this was bizarre, walking on a man made floating island is so different and so amazing! Then onward to Amantani, a beautiful islands untouched by cars and pollution. Allways travel is helping to create and stock libraries there for the children to encourage education and in particular reading skills, this is a heartwarming visit where you are helping people while you visit rather than doing damage to their environment and community. We stayed with a wonderful family who dressed us in their traditional clothes in the evening as they took us to a party in the village hall. I can´t tell you how wonderful the whole tour was, really perfect.

Thank you Victor so much and I will send some books out to you when I get home.

“Good way to travel between Cusco and Puno”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2012

Be prepared for a long day. I think the only other way to get between the two cities other than a private car was by train, which I was told also takes 10 hours or so. All Ways travel arranged for us to join a bus tour . Had to leave early from our hotel and took a 10 hour plus trip to Puno. Bus was comfortable, our guide spoke good English. Stopped at several towns and saw a few sites as well as a few shopping opportunities. There is also a lunch stop. Having a guide explain the countryside as we traveled was what made it so nice.

“We paid almost twice as much...!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2012

For our tour of the Uros Islands and Tequile Island we went to All Ways Travel because they were highly rated in our research. We were offered 2 packages, the lesser was going to make the day longer because we would be on a slower boat and travel to Taquile would take 3 hours one way. We paid nearly double the cost to reduce our travel time on the water to 1 1/2 hours each way. We talked to other people on our tour and found out that they had paid the lesser amount through other travel agencies for the very tour we were on. A couple who we befriended during the day told us they had booked with Suri Travel, they were appalled at the amount we paid. We wished we had used Suri Travel.

“Amazing customer service - Victor let us stay in his house!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

Actually, this is a long overdue review of All Ways Travel (http://titicacaperu.com) , actually from our trip in spring of 2009. We did a day trip tour of Uros (floating island) and Sillustani, starting at9 am and ending around 5 pm (I think), and it was a great tour of some truly unique and wonderful geography (and people). But, the kicker here is that we arrived via overnight bus from Cuzco at like 5 am, and Victor let us STAY IN HIS HOUSE, and SLEEP IN A GUEST BED for a couple of hours until it was time for the tour to start!?!?!? How amazing is that? We just showed up at the tour office early, and he saw and, and welcomed us in to rest. I was overwhelmed by his graciousness. So, in summary, great tour, AMAZINGLY NICE operators.
