“Good hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

Very accommodating staff, friendly, though not necessarily english speaking. Room was basic but as expected. Would recommend to others, though I'm sure other hostels in Puno have similar / better quality facilities also.

Although not as big or as well known as its sister hostel in Arequipa, Puno's Bothy offers excellent service, spotless rooms and again amazing helpful staff. There is a communal TV room upstairs beside the kitchen and residents are permitted to use kitchen facilities also which is great. Complimentary teas and coffes all day and free access to 2 computers also. Thanks for a great stay and all your help.

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs are quieter :)

Puno is a very cold city but when i reach Bothy I felt a warm atmosphere. Everybody treat me like a queen they were really nice and friendly. The room was perfect comfortable and clean. I only have problem with the bathrooms but everything else was perfect. I met bunch of new friends and have the best time in Puno.

The dorm room floor was very dirty. The bed was comfortable & I slept well. There were enough blankets. There are 2 showers for the whole hostel - this seems rather inadequate to me, especially given that most people are getting up at the same time for trips and could led to a lot of waiting. Hot water was available, but occasionally had to be requested. The showers are outside & it is very very cold in Puno. The hostel is in backstreets & coming home alone at night I felt a little unsafe.

There is a good vibe amongst the travellers and this seems to be the main redeeming feature, that, plus the staff being friendly.

The state of the facilities is nothing to write home about, but the friendly staff makes up for it. We arrived at 5 am after your standard fairly horrible bus ride from Cuzco. We weren't supposed to arrive this early and had nothing booked for this night, only the next. We went to Bothy were we had our booking, and after waking them up in the middle of the night they gave us blankets and let us sleep in the tv room free of charge! Also, they make warm pancakes give you a glass of juice in the morning, which is a bonus. Nothing fancy, but cheap and good value

If budget is what you are after, this is the place. Even though they have no kitchen and mid-day only hot water showers (solar heating) it is a good option for cheap living. Beds are fine, extended breakfast at an extra cost and a decent bar.

Like me, most likely you are in Puno to tour Lake Titikaka, so staying in Puno was just a formality as all tours leave from here. Therefore, I didn't feel the need to splurge on anything fancy.

I arrived in Puno in pouring rain to an unassuming doorway, but my hostel experience was positive. I made a reservation ahead of time, so checking-in was easy. I stayed in the girls dorm and it was warm, clean, and comfortable. The dorm was very spacious, but as with most shared spaces, it can become noisy if you decide to turn in early, so break out your earplugs.

They have laundry service, but the cleaning ladies were super nice about letting me hand wash some things and air dry them on the roof.

They also serve a decent breakfast of pancakes (but get there early because they go fast). And there's also the standard serving of bread, jam, butter, manjar, tea, and coffee.

As to the bathrooms. There are two downstairs (right in the lobby) and one upstairs (but it was out of order when I was there). They were clean, but as the toilets share the same space as the shower, so the space is wet most of the time.

I also went on a 2 day, 2 night tour of Lake Titikaka and left my bags with reception with no issue. The staff is extremely accommodating and helpful.

It's a bit out of the way, but that didn't really matter much to me.

NOTE: I stayed here April 2012.
