“Very Commercialized, keep your $ to yourself”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

The way the Uros people live is interesting. However, we found the entire experience to be overly commercial with the main focus on selling their goods at inflated prices.

“An Interesting Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

Visiting the floating islands on Lake Titikaka was one of the highlights of our trip. The boat ride out was very pleasant and the experience of stepping onto the islands themselves unique. The people were friendly and shared much information. I suppose it is very different from before tourist visits but you could still appreciate the independence of the Uros. The Kontiki boat ride was fun, though I felt bad because the lady rowers were working so hard. Fun to visit. I would say a "must do".

“Very weird walking on water”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013

We went to the Uros Islands on a tour from Puno.
The bunch of islands that we went to were located about 2 hours away from the port in Puno. Upon disembarking onto the floating islands, you can feel your feet sinking into the reeds - very weird, and I really didn't want to stay in one place too long, just incase the reeds became squashed. It's a very strange feeling!
You get a good presentation by the Chief of the island, and then you are free to roam around taking photos and are able to buy handmade items there too - money that is used to buy supplies for the island.

“A fun experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013

For starters, i though this was highly touristy. Uros is about 30 minutes by boat. Once you reach the floating islands, the villagers explain how they the floating island started and how they make it, they show model houses, what they do for living etc. Then you can opt for a local boat ride for 10 soles. They sell artifacts if one is interested in buying. Overall it's quite a good experience.

“Part of the tourist circuit, get a trinket”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013

This was the last stop on our trip out on the lake so we avoided the other tours who make it their first stop. A tough and challenging lifestyle is depicted for those who live on these islands, but we are not sure whether they are still living there or coming out each day to sell trickets to hapless tourists. We passed on the reed boat ride doing a circuit of the island. It all seemed rather contrived.
