“Golfer's Paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

My husband and I just returned from a fantastic golf vacation at the Royal Decameron, Panama. The flight was on time, and Nolitours staff were waiting to very efficiently whisk us off to our bus. The drive to the resort was a little long, but seeing the Panama City skyline at night was wonderful. Check in went smoothly & quickly.

Our luggage was delivered to our villa, and was waiting for us when we arrived.

This property is Huge, and we were surprised to discover that our villa was a LONG way from the main resort. As it turned out, this was no problem, as the shuttle service was good. That said, there was no popping from your room to the bar to refresh your drink, or grab a quick snack. We just picked up some refreshments from the little store across from the main resort, and kept them in our room in a small cooler with ice.

The golf course was awesome. Colourful flowers, lush vegetation, birds of all kinds, (even birdies), and immaculately manicured fairways, made this an exceptional golfing experience.

The beach was beautiful, but unfortunately, the flags were red due to jellyfish in the water.
Woody's bar is a short walk up the beach, and a great hangout for a change from the resort.
You can walk to the ruins of General Noreaga's beachouse, as well, and contemplate the terrible effects this dictator had on this beautiful country.

We also went para sailing. I would recommend this to anyone! Really fun!!

We enjoyed a tour going through the locks on the Pacific side of the canal, and would also recommend this tour, as opposed to the ones that view the canal from the land.

The only drawback we found at the resort is that the buffet was disappointing, and the al a carts book quickly. That said, there was enough to scrape by on, and there are very good restaurants off the resort, particularly one little seafood restaurant, across from the resort.

All in all, a great trip.

Room Tip: If you are staying in the villas, ask for a room close to the resort.

“Sun Sun Sun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

Just returned from Panama and the Royal Decameron... Very pleased with the resort... We traveled with another couple so there was 4 of us (we booked with Apple Vacations great way to go they took care of transfers, and everything went like clock work) We was in building 12 ground floor great location close to pool and bar and buffet..3 days into the vacation our friends had to be moved at the resorts request because aircondition was not working they ended up in building 30 and 3rd floor still very nice location.. a few helpful hints: bring your insulated cups for drinks everyone does, also your own wash cloth as they do not have.. The only down side was the steps so bring you walking shoes no elevators... From ground floor to Lobby 1 there is 67 stair steps there are NO elevators... shows was good.. Andrean in activies is Awesome, Davon bartender great also...We booked 3 nights in Panama City before going to resort since the distance was so far this was a very good idea. Beach was good but sand was so hot we stayed most of the time at the pool. Get involved with the activites you will have a very good time... Weather was great >>>>

Room Tip: Ground floor upgrade!!!

“Will not be returning......”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

We just got back early this morning after spending one week. So glad to be home. We did 5 days at the Resort and 2 days in Panama City (which we are so glad we did). The resort is definitely beautiful, however, the ocean water's were very murky. We really wanted to do some snorkeling but they had the RED flags out pretty much the whole time we were there because of the jellyfish :-(.

Our room was good....we stayed in the 4900 block. The A/C was perfectly set, the rooms we not overly clean, but ok. If you wanted anything extra just leave a tip on the bed. It is very quiet back there so if you didn't want all the noise this is the prefect place to stay. There is a lot of walking and stairs so be prepared, however, they do have vans that will come and pick you up and bring you where you need to go. We only used this service once....on check out day....which brought us to Lobby 1.

The weather was very hot....which was great!!! :-) Temp average +33

NEGATIVES:

1. Food - was absolutely horrible. I do not understand the people that are saying the food was good....where did they eat, must have been somewhere off the resort. We found the food to be tasteless, bland, repetitious, not very fresh, the fruit was sad (not very good).....If you have no taste buds than the food would be fine for you. The A la Carte....well, we only ate at one (that was enough for us), we went to the Italian cuisine....we ordered the Lasagna....thinking this should be good....NOT....the first bite tasted like a salt shaker....absolutely gross.....so disappointing.....:-(

2. This resort seems to be more appealing to the more maturer crowd (if you know what I mean)....I am in my early forties and I felt very young.

3. THE FRENCH....do I need to say anymore. Well for those of you that do not know what I am talking about.....these people from "Montreal"...anywhere in "Quebec".....are very, very, very RUDE....and I mean RUDE......I am so embarrassed that they are considered Canadian's....because the other Canadian Province's do not behave like these people do.

4. DRINKS....were definitely watered down.......we had to purchase beverages from the stores in Lobby 1, 2 & 3......beers and vodka drinks...... this was the only time we felt a buzz. You may get the odd bartender that would actually make you a good drink.....but it was sad being at an all inclusive resort and you had to purchase your alcohol.....:-(

5. Nolitours rep's were very disorganized....they would tell you one thing....and another Rep would tell you something totally different..we felt very lost at times on what we were supposed to do....when we went to Cancun, the Nolitours Rep's were way better......we didn't feel lost at all....we always knew what to do......

6. Learn SPANISH....we found it hard to communicate here....just learn simple spanish words to get you by....

POSITIVE is when we went to Panama City....we stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel....very beautiful hotel......and the food was absolutely amazing......it was 500% times better than at the resort. Everything was fresh....had taste.....variety (many, many, many choices).....I think I may have gained a couple pounds here.....(lost weight at the resort....not kidding....it was awful.) The desserts were delicious....many choices......at the resort....they actually put fruit loops on top of a so called cheese cake for decoration.....yuk......Drinks....well we definitely felt the alcohol....there was nothing water downed here.....not like at the resort.....Lots to do here.....definitely will not get bored....like others have mentioned in their review......Check out the Hard Rock Hotel's website.....you will see for yourself.....

If we were to go back to Panama.....would definitely do the City again....not the resort.

Room Tip: Get the newer rooms....apparently the have the newer A/C......4000 block and up.....plus it's qu...

“Huge Resort - HOT Weather - Great Vacay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

I just got back from a weeks stay with one of my girlfriends and 4 other couples. We had an awesome time! The resort is HUGE but that just means you can eat a little more at the buffet to keep your energy up ;) Buffets were ok. A la Carte's were awesome - the Thai a la carte and Cayuco (where the snack bar is) were the best! We were in Block 20 room 10 - no complaints! The AC was set at 21.5 C which was nice after a HOT day in the sun! Two other couples we were travelling with were in Block 24 and thier AC was set at 27-29 - you can't adjust the AC - so I guess just hope you get a good one! Plenty of pools - no lack of water! Beach is nice - it is SO hot to walk on. We say one stingray bite happen and there was red flags up a couple days but just use your discretion when swimming in the ocean.
Instead of taking the large bus on the day trip to the city and to Anton Valley we booked a driver, an english speaking guide and a 13-seater van and went on our way! If you are travelling with a big group I highly suggest seeing the sights this way as you can do what you want and take as long as you want. You must go see the Panama Canal. And Anton Valley was beautiful! We heard some not-so-good reviews about the zoo.. but it is Panama, not Calgary. It's a good day trip! Head to Ty's in Anton Valley for a bucket of beer and a picture with Mona the Monkey! If you get a chance, talk to the owners, they are pretty awesome people.
My only complaint about the resort would be that there is nothing to do at night besides the entertainment and then the disco - so nights can get a little boring a few days in. As for the long drive to the resort (2-3 hrs depending on traffic) - you know it's coming - so sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery!

Room Tip: Rooms at the south end of site tend to be quieter. Block 40 and up are newer rooms but we were in B...

“Huge resort with loads of stairs.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

This place is huge with lots of bars and places to eat.
The al la carts were all very good but the buffets were just average at best, the entertainment at night was really good as far as resorts go and the bars had pretty good service, everyone seemed really friendly.
The rooms are really clean but kinda out dated in the building we were in, we had no problem with the maid giving us all the towels and water we needed.
The bad thing about the resort is they nickel and dime you to death, extra for a key, safe, fridge, internet. I would prefer to pay all that in the initial price and not be bothered but all in all not a bad resort for the price.
Panama is very hot and humid so climbing all those stairs and all the walking around makes you very tired by night time so never really checked out the disco but looked like a lot of fun. I would go back and stay if there was a good deal on packages.
There are lots of pools which is real nice and the grounds are tropical and very well cared for and the golf course is also very nice.
