“Best Tiki Bar in Bocas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

I have lived in Bocas for the last 6 years. The Pickled Parrot is one of my favorite bar/restaurants. If you opened a dictionary and looked up the word ¨Tiki Bar¨there would be a picture of the Pickled Parrot. A natural wood structure with a real thached roof built out over the blue/green waters of the Caribbean. Before eating be sure to have either a Pina Colada or a Margarita. These are the best you will find anywhere in Bocas. George, the owner, uses only fresh local pineapple and coconut in the Pina Coladas and fresh local limes in the Margaritas. The fresh ingedients in Georges secret recipe make these drinks better than any others you will taste. After a cold beer or delicious drink, be sure to have something to eat. Everything on the basic menu is delicious, but be sure to inquire about their daily specials. Occaisionally there is roast BBQ pig, local fish and lobster, roasted chicken and other delights that are not listed on the regular menu. Spend a tranquil afternoon or evening enjoing the best sea view in Bocas while you sip on your tropical drink. Visiting the Pickled Parrot is a must if you are staying in Bocas. Tip---Be sure to bring insect repellent. Ocaisionally the sand fleas on Isla Carenero will dine on you while you are dining. Doesn´t happen every day, but come prepared with insect repellent just in case. Access to the Pickled Parrot is by water taxi from Isla Colon to Isla Carenero.

“Great Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

We stopped at this bar & Grill during the end of our hike of the island and we must say the food was excellent, one of the best meals we had. This place above the water had such a beautiful view of the other islands too. We recommend it to all that arrive on Carenero Island.

“What's all the fuss about...?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

Visited this restaurant/bar during my stay at Bocas del Toro and was honestly disappointed with everything. We decided to have lunch at the Pickled Parrot based on previous TA reviews and from the moment we arrived I was less than impressed. Firstly, ordering food and drinks seemed to annoy the man working, who would only ever grunt or mumble in acknowledgment, even when we thanked him. Secondly, the food was overpriced, unimpressive and tasteless...I ordered the "mango chicken", which on paper sounded fresh and delicious but actually turned out to be a few bits of oily chicken and mango shoved into a baguette and covered with cheese (nowhere on the menu does it mention the baguette, or the cheese in English) and my girlfriend ordered the "firecracker shrimp", which was about 5 shrimp, covered in an oily sauce and spread out on a plate. A few hours after eating, my girlfriend was sick....several times... And I don't believe it was her cereal breakfast that did it.
Not only was this one of our most expensive meals whilst in Bocas, but also one of our worst.

“Got the shirt”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

What a place to just sit out over the water and watch the sunset with a mojito. The location is unbelievably good, right out on the water, very relaxed and idyllic. The best part of this place though is George, who perhaps is the pickled parrot. For two nights in a row we sat around the bar till the wee hours of the morning listening to George's stories about Panama. Ask him how he solved the problem of the missing tequila or about the plane fuselage at the airport. This guy is classic. Highly recommend this as a sun setter spot, just catch the boat and pull right up to the bar and plan to stay for a while.

“Burgers!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

We were told the burgers here are the best, unfortunately I don't eat red meat so I ordered the mahi mahi in garlic butter which came with rice and salad- I found it over priced and the fish itself was dry- it was a little disappointing.

The two I was with both ordered burgers, for about $6, you get a decent serving of chips and salad and a good hearty burger.

We were the only customers in the restaurant at the time and there was just one staff member on who cooked and served us and she was great. Really friendly and quite a funny lady!
