“ideal for nature lovers!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2013

The must do when you visit Bocas; take a boat to Bastimentos Island and take a walk to Up In The Hill.
An amazing organic farm, coffee shop, organic producer, art shop, cabins for rent!
If you have the time, rent a cabin for a couple of nights, you will enjoy observing the nature and the scenic views of the place. Great place for Birding, The famous Red Frog lives in the farm.
If you can´t spend the night, a must do is the tour of the farm. This people produce Cacao, many great veggies and local fruits. The best Chocolate Brownie of Bocas! Great coffee also.
A real sustainable farm! And the family behind this place, even better!
We had the best time!

“The most charming place in Panama!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

I was travelling in Panama and was bored with Bocas del Toro (I'd liken it to the Jersey shore of Panama, over-run by tourists) and decided to try Isla Bastimentos instead. We ended up finding a wonderful hostel & exploring the Island first hand. It ended up being a highlight of our trip. Up in the Hill is well-worth the trek. The owners are lovely & they had volunteers staying with them at the time who were equally wonderful. It is a laid-back atmosphere with delicious food & drinks. The chocolate truffles are amazing & the fresh lemonade is the best refreshment you can ask for. They let us leave our bags there so we could go to Wizard beach without worrying about getting mugged. Another wonderful element of Up In The Hill is their gift selection! They have authentic handicrafts that make for the best gifts. And the prices are unrivaled in the rest of the country. I am tempted to not tell anybody about this gem because it's so charming & unabused. But I have to share that it is truly a special place in Panama! You won't regret it!

“Wonderful Day Excursion from Bocas Town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2013

My girlfriend and I visited Xavier and Janette last Saturday and had a wonderful time. We took the water taxi over to Bastimentos (remember to get off at the main dock near the park). Xavier was waiting for us to start the trek up the hill to the farm. It's a long walk but completely charming as we chat along the route and get a little background info on the farm and Xavier's family. Then were given the tour on the production of cocoa. Got to taste a little at the end in hot cocoa made with coconut milk which was delicious. Janette makes wonder balms, lotions and soaps from natural ingredients in the area. She also has the handicrafts of her neighbors for sale as well....all kinds of local crafts. NOT to mention the cocoa nibs or cocoa balls made with the seeds from their trees. Great gifts to take back to folks back home. Lovely family and highly recommend reaching to them to book a tour. Its very relaxed and laid back.

“Beautiful hike for some great coffee”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

My daughter and I were on Isla Bastimentos on a day trip and followed the signs from the town, Old Bank, up the hill. It was an enjoyable hike (only 12 mins. as the signs say!) with beautiful views and we even spotted a tiny strawberry poison dart frog in a tree on the way. Once we got to the cafe/house, we were pleasantly surprised by the lovely coconut oil products, handmade beaded jewelry and the gorgeous gardens surrounding the cafe. Janet and Javi were friendly and pleasant folks. Dark, fragrant coffee was delicious! So worth the hike up the hill.

“Worth the hike”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013 via mobile

We visited Up in the hill when we took a day trip to Old Bank in Bastimientos. The hike up the hill was interesting passing through jungle and had beautiful view of the surrounding water. The proprietors Janet and Harvey were very hospitable and the chocolate milk and coffee we had there was delicious.
It was amazing to us to see what these two people have created out of the jungle We bought several of their products and the anti itch balm called Stop Scratchin worked great on my wife's insect bites and I loved the coconut oil. The brownies and chocolate were great. They have two cabins available and although we didn't stay there they were artistic and nice and would be a wonderful place to stay if you really want to get away from it all.
