“Nice.... but distant !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

Nice hotel..... but bit far away from Salalah - 1 hour drive. if you are to travel around salalah, this may not be a ideal place. needs some signage. especially from Mirbat to hotel.

Service is good. staff is pleasant and friendly. rooms are spacious and clean. but seems that those needs some good sound insulation. some guests who were staying 2 rooms next to us were partying till dawn and noise was like we are in the same room.

stayed at the pool level. so, you are stepping out to the pool terrace. good place, but bit less privacy (may be okay for some). Pool was very nice. a big kids pool and large Jacuzzi. ideal for relaxing !

The hotel is located an hour from Salalah Airport but that was ok for us as there is still plenty to explore in the local area. We arrived about 7pm in the evening and pulled up to the drop off area in front of the hotel but were not met by anyone. I unloaded our bags and then a member of staff appeared. Ok, i'm capable of shifting my own bags but 5* hotels usually want to do this for you.
Check in was ok but no one showed us to our room, again this is usually part of the 5* hotel experience. When we got to our room we were met by a member of staff who showed us around the room and brought in our bags.
After settling in to our room we went to explore the hotel. The beach area is great, very rugged and clear skies with lots of stars. There was also lots of crabs rushing around which was amusing.
We spent three nights and had three evening meals at the hotel, with al a carte one night, room service and a visit to the fish restaurant on other nights. All food was good and the restaurant service was friendly although not always that professional. The break fast buffet was also good.
The hotel is very cold. The AC seems to be set on about 19C with maximum fan. The room was also cold and we had to keep the AC off, although it seemed that the bathroom was separately controlled and there was no way to increase the temperature. The room is spacious although the bathroom was a bit small and smelt a little damp. There is a big balcony although it is a bit off putting because of bird poo!

Went to collect the car in the morning to explore the local area. So went to the reception but was surprised to be handed the keys rather than the car being brought round to us. Again this is a small thing but Middle East 5* hotels are normally very keen to oblige in this area. As the car was valet parked the night before we also had to try and find it!

On our last day we had a massage at the spa. This was excellent. Very good massage and friendly staff.

Check out was relatively efficient and friendly.

Overall I liked the hotel. I liked the rugged beach which is very different to the pristine beaches at many hotels. The hotel was well located for exploring the local area (you need a car though) and the spa is great. There are some faults though, i have listed some above and there are others too. The hotel is expensive and therefore these minor faults in my view mean that the hotel is poor value for money. There needs to be step up in performance to make me want to return, or prices need to drop.

It is really a nice hotel. The location is good, although it's far from Salalah city, however, you can find many attractions between the hotel and Salalah.
They provide a complimentary shuttle from the airport (if you book directly with them). The shuttle bus is OK. You can taste the water coming from the AC!!.
The rooms are nice, specious and fairly big. They have different views, however most of them have the "water view" (either to the sea or pool + sea).
The pool was nice and big enough, however, the weather is not perfect for swiming always. It was Khareef (autumn) time.
They have amny restaurants, I had the chance to try the Arabic restaurant with nice seating decoration. The food was good and tasty. We had the outside outlet for Shish which was also nice.
It happened that we have been there during Eid (public holiday), so it was busy, but I am not sure if they were ready for higher occupancy.
It happened also that I was for my honeymoon, so they sent us a cake. Unfortunately, the room service attendant kept it uncoverd, so we found it full of ants at night. I asked to change the room, but there was no other room available during that night.

Terrible Experience ,Staff misguided about view from room and tried to charge more but luckily saved ..We ordered Drinks - staff charged more than we ordered and when we asked they said it was double as if we are fools...but of no use.. When ordered dinner one day they served vegetable with complimentary bread but next day denied that they don't serve which was pathetic...Went to Bar...no ambiance...rather staff is standing on head all the time...no privacy ...pronunciation of "BOTTLE "by bar tender was like something that he has come from an Asian village with no education ( shocked to know that a 5 star resort hires such staff) ....no slippers...no dental kit,...Room Door lock card didn't work even a single day- we had to go to reception to re-activate ...Pool Bar closes at 7 pm when swimming is open till 11 pm but in the information book they provide to guests its mention 24 hours :-( .

OVERALL STAY EXPERIENCE OF 4 Days & 3 Nights was : HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING....

Most disappointing. My sister spent an hour and a half at the airport upon pick up before she was driven back. In our room, the safe did not work. there were no basic shampoos/shower gels etc. No wi -fi in the rooms. Then the worst was that they had not cleaned our room one day - when we had come back at 3:00 p.m. it was still not organized.Staff are friendly but not very prompt. Yesterday night we spent half an hour in the lobby bar before anyone asked us if we needed anything. We only asked for two water melon juices and that literally took 45 minutes. Last night we also ordered one club sandwich (no more) which took 1.30 minutes to arrive. We had to call twice to get it, and after making two calls we discovered they had forgotten to place the order. Finally, the guest service desk is often unattended. If there is anything in the favor of the hotel it is that they have comfortable beds. They really need to revamp this place big time, otherwise it is not worth your money. Oh and one last but important thing. The hotel is a 100 km away from Salalah (one hour drive) which is not really mentioned anywhere....

Spent 3D4N in the hotel with my wife as a break from Abu Dhabi work life. March is probably not the best time as Salalah is as dry as the rest of the Middle East, but also the hotel was relatively quiet so no fighting for the loungers at the pool...
The hotel is of the expected Marriott quality, we had a full- board option and I must say that the buffet dinner was one of the best I ever experienced (and living in Abu Dhabi I have quite a few places to compare). Each evening there was a new theme with different dishes to sample so it never got boring.
Lovely pool, pristine beach perfect for long walks, superb room quality - if you are willing or wanting to be far away from everywhere that's the place to stay.

I greatly enjoyed spending four nights at the Marriott in Salalah. I am based in Qatar and used coupons from the Entertainer book to get two complimentary nights while I was there. Breakfast wasn't included in the room rate but when we got to the buffet and wanted to order from the menu, they offered us the buffet as a two-for-one as well. It was supposedly the high season but the first day we were there, there was only one other couple at the pool. The pool is fantastic and enormous and has a swim up bar but for some reason the pool bar does not serve any alcohol from 3-6pm. That was probably the only negative about the pool experience. The wi-fi had a strong signal but was only available in the lobby. There were a couple different venues for eating and you could get pretty much any menu at any location which was good. Overall, great time and was grateful for the free airport transfers!
