I greatly enjoyed spending four nights at the Marriott in Salalah. I am based in Qatar and used coupons from the Entertainer book to get two complimentary nights while I was there. Breakfast wasn't included in the room rate but when we got to the buffet and wanted to order from the menu, they offered us the buffet as a two-for-one as well. It was supposedly the high season but the first day we were there, there was only one other couple at the pool. The pool is fantastic and enormous and has a swim up bar but for some reason the pool bar does not serve any alcohol from 3-6pm. That was probably the only negative about the pool experience. The wi-fi had a strong signal but was only available in the lobby. There were a couple different venues for eating and you could get pretty much any menu at any location which was good. Overall, great time and was grateful for the free airport transfers!

I did not know that the Marriott Beach Resort was 90kms from the Salalah airport and that the resort organizes complimentary transfers if informed a prior. It was kind of a shock that there were no money changing facilities at the airport and how was I pay going to pay the 30 Omani Rials to the taxi-driver? The cabbie agreed to accept UAE Dirhams and was a great Indian Bollywood Buff and a Kishore Kumar fan so I had excellent Kishoreda songs in his cab for the 60 minute journey. The Resort is Miles away from nowhere with one of the most gorgeous beaches on earth. I was lucky to have opted for the Executive room option on Ago a. This meant complimentary meals throughout the day from 6:30am thru 8:00pm! If I had opted for the cheaper room without the breakfast option, I would have spent more on the F&B than the room nights! Fantastic service, excellent F&B and luxurious rooms. The only downside is the poor breakfast spread which reminded me of the same menu military barrack breakfasts - but this can be easily overlooked by the myriad complimentary meal options in multiple venues. The hotel has a lovely pool area - one of the best I've seen anywhere in the world! The Beach is pristine, virginal and you can see crabs walking about on the textured beach rocks like they own the place. Nature at its best. The misty weather was just purrfect for a purrfect holiday! 10/10 for the Marriott staff who should be considered benchmark for service. A perfectly organized airport shuttle rounded off the perfect break from reality:-)

Room Tip: Please take the Executive Room package only!

After some busy travelling of late we wanted somewhere to lie back and relax. The hotel delivered this in bucketfuls. On arrival at the airport and payment for the visa complete we walked outside for our transfer to the hotel. It is always with some trepidation at this point as normally these things are done via email - but I need not have worried. The driver was there waiting for us and after an hours drive, we arrived and were upgraded to an Executive room which was a great thing as we arrived at nearly 3am. We settled down to a very comfortable nights sleep in a great big bed. The room was large and the en suite had both shower and bath - great for us as he likes to soak and I like the shower. There was a lounge area with a dining table a small tea/coffee area and another toilet. Thank you Ayat - it was a lovely room and we had two views to choose from one pool side or the sea.

Breakfast was the usual buffet fare with eggs, pancakes etc made to order, the staff were very welcoming and knew we had just arrived the previous night. The coffee was good and if you get the offer of freshly squeezed juice - take it, it is better than the dispenser drinks. As per normal he slept in and I went alone, which is always the way. Gives me time to explore the dining options and what else is on offer in the hotel. The hotel has six places to eat; an international buffet, an arabic restaurant, a english pub, a pool bar, a piano/lobby bar and a seafood restaurant, of course there is room service.

What to do with the rest of the day? We went for a walk along the beach and found the spa, booked a treatment for us both then lay by the pool until it was time... Ah the pool, forgot to mention it is supposedly the biggest in Oman and because the hotel was so quiet we had it to ourselves! It was weird everything was quiet, it made it feel like our own personal hotel with just us and about 200 members of staff to cater to our every need. Although it got busier during our trip, we never lost the feeling of having the special treatment, nothing was too much trouble.

The Spa treatments are carried out by Balinese nationals and although limited in choice for some people, they have all those you might want whilst you are on holiday. The quality of the massage was fantastic, one of the best I have had in a long time - in fact even 5 days later the niggling back issue I had has not returned, an added bonus from the holiday.

We started our first night at the pool bar were they told us about opening and happy hours. Cocktails were freshly prepared and tasted great - makes you feel good to have a fruit portion with your alcohol :-) Veg and cheese were served with the drink which again was a nice change and again helped you feel as though you were being healthy.

As our first night was also our anniversary celebration, we thought we would splash out and go to the seafood restaurant. The food was good and the portions were large - I mean where else would you order lobster and get two!!! Delicious and sweet with lemon butter on the side mmmm and his Goan fish curry was so flavourful. If there was anything I would suggest they improve the batter on the calamari but otherwise the food was well prepared and served hot. Happy with our efforts to eat the food we returned to our room and opened the door to discover the hotel had known about our anniversary via a friend! In the room we had a bottle of wine, cake, towel animals, flowers and a card. What great friends we have and the hotel did them proud. When we called reception to thank them, they told us they thought it was on the Friday so they must have been running around crazily - but it didn't show.

The following morning everyone asked if we enjoyed our evening and of course, how could we not have. Our next days followed a similar routine and we really recharged the batteries. We ate at all the various restaurants and enjoyed what we had, the nachos we the only thing that were disappointing as they had american squeezy cheese instead of real cheddar but again only a niggle and not the end of the world.

We decided to go out and about on the free trip to the Souq in Salalah. The bus leaves around 3.30pm and returns from the souq at 8.45 pm arriving back around 10pm. This is a long time to wander around a souq looking at frankincense. There was plenty of clothes and perfumes to look at but no jewellery or spices - would have been good to go to a this souq also as we personally found we had too much time there. We could have gotten a taxi back but did not know how to let the driver know we had returned. If you want to go be prepared for a wait to return but there are food venues around if you want.

The penultimate day Ayat managed to find us a taxi driver who spoke English and off we set to see the sites. It is amazing how different it is one one side of the road you have camels and sand dunes and on the other side you have the mountains starting to turn green because of the incoming monsoon weather. Our driver was great and took us around all the highlights of the area and was interesting and well worth the money.

All in all we really enjoyed staying at the hotel and would recommend it as time away from everything (as phone signals are limited) and recharge the batteries. Would we go again, YES most definitely and look forward to seeing it when the Khareef is past and the whole area green.

Thank you to Ayat, Hussein and your teams - we had a great time.

Room Tip: The whole hotel is only three storeys high and you will either have a pool view or one overlooking t...

I went with a good friend of mine for 4D3N to Salalah. The mariott hotel generally is a nice place to go though me and friend were bored as there wasnt much to do, The hotel is located really far from the city (1 hour by bus). However, it is in a beautiful location with the sea at one side, a lovely large swimming pool with good music playing in the background. The spa is really really good, everyone (including myself of course) came out from the massage room with the satisfied and happy look on their face. Very very relaxing.

The managers and everyone were very nice. We planned a sudden pool party with our tour group and requested to book the pool very last minute. The manager was very accommodating and let us play our music etc at the pool.

I would recommend to go to Salalah during the Khareef season (July, August, September) which is the cooler and rainy months of Salalah. The experience would be wonderful.

Room Tip: Don't go for a ground floor room as it seems like anyone can get into the hotel through the balc...

I loved this hotel. Loved it.

The price is amazingly cheap. The hotel and lobby are much nicer than other hotels in this region such as the Hilton. The staff were very attentive to our needs and gave us first class service. We got massages on discount (off season) at the spa. The Balinese massages were highly professional and done with correct pressure and attention. It left us feeling relaxed and melted.

The beach behind the hotel is quite nice and great for walks, though note that the waves are pretty serious and doesn't look like it would be easy to swim.

The pool is huge (includes hot tub) and very nice. It was full of people, but large enough to where you didn't feel too crowded. In addition the swim up bar is a nice touch.

For breakfast please try the banana jam and papaya jam. they are home made and absolutely delicious.

The only thing lacking at this hotel was the things to do are quite seasonal. For one, we couldn't use the scuba center because this season the water is too rough for diving. I can't really blame them for that, but it does affect your plans/fun while at the hotel.

In addition while not at the hotel but the surrounding area gets very beautiful towards the end of Khareef (monsoon) season.

We went in early Khareef and found nearly all the sites to be less lush, and less exciting than we originally believed they would be.

I would definitely recommend this hotel, but please go during the true khareef season (we were told mid/late July - September).

Dear Leopold

Thank you for taking the time to post your positive comments and feedback. We are delighted to know that you have enjoyed your stay with us.

Khareef is undoubtedly the best season to visit Salalah, however we have tourists visiting us from all over the world during Khareef. Which makes the city packed with people. If you are someone who would like to enjoy the natural beauty and are looking for a quite holiday the best time to visit Salalah is just before the Khareef season starts. It is also unfortunate that you could not enjoy our underwater activities. The sea is rough and unsuitable for diving. Keeping in mind the security of our Guests we have closed the Diving center until September or till the weather clears up.

It will be our pleasure to welcome you back to the resort and once again we thank you for your kind comments.

The hotel compound is quite large. The architectural design of the two-story building with many interesting lamps in the Omani style inside looks very appealing. The pool area is well designed, too.
The hotel is easy to find due to adequate signs-posting. There are no parking fees for cars.
The hotel is rather isolated. It is about 6 km from Mirbat, approximately 80 km from Salalah. There are some simple restaurants in Mirbat if you prefer to eat outside of the hotel. A vehicle is almost indispensable, however.
The entire staff of the hotel was very friendly and helpful. Check-in and check-out were carried out professionally. However, an e-mail to the hotel was not answered.
The quality of the breakfast was OK, it seemed over-priced, however.
The pool area is large and the water had a pleasant temperature. The nearby sea is less suitable for swimming because of numerous rocks. It is a good idea, though, to watch the fish in the clear water.
Our room with view of the sea view and balcony was very well equipped. The king-size bed had an excellent mattress.
Unfortunately there were also negative sides to the hotel.
There was no WiFi in the room which you would expect as a standard in 5-star hotels. If you want to use the WiFi you have to walk to the lobby which can be quite a way.
The hotel boats to have LAN access in the rooms. But this access worked neither immediately nor reliably. It was particularly strange that the guest has to make a phone call to the Philippines (Da Como) to get access. As there were technical problems in our case here, a conversation with the provider was required which was billed to the room. This seems rather unfair as a properly functioning LAN access normally lies within the responsibility of the hotel.

The hotel was nearly empty at the time of our visit in early March. If the hotel solved the internet problems and fixed the room rates in off-season with moderation, it could probably become one of the most flourishing houses in Oman.
