“Good Natural Atraction, need to book in advance”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2012

This place is located around 40 Kms from Nizwa. We visited this place from Nizwa. You need to book in advance and can be made online, though the payment is required to be made only at the cave reception. Price per adult is 5.5 Omani Riyals / AED 55. Please be at the place atleast before 15 mnts of the appointed time. There is a train taking you from the reception area to the cave ( it is only for 200 mtrs ) www.alhootacave.com

This is a geological attraction in Oman . One big cave and a lake 1 km long inside the cave ( only a part of the lake is visible for us )

The cave is home to eight eyed spiders, bats and blind fish. A guide will take you inside the cave(one of the largest in the world) and show you rock formations formed over thousands of years.

“Well conceived but overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2012

Considering the approximately $10 entry ticket(for foreigners) to the place, i had high expectations of it. There is a small geological museum which elightens one about the rocks found in Oman. You will next see a defunct train which was supposed to take you to the entrance of the cave. When one walks to the entrance of the cave and finds that it is only 200m one can only wonder at the purpose of the train in the first place. A guide will take you inside the cave(one of the largest in the world) and show you rock formations formed over thousands of years. On returning from your 1 hour to and fro journey you will feel that you haven't got the bang for your buck. It should have been priced at around $5 per person ideally.

“A different world altogether...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2011

A world that thrives inside a cave and a lake that is close to a kilometer long... The place also has a small museum and information center that provides details of the cave's history. You will find blind fish / 8 eyed bats (yes eyes not legs!) and cave bats in here.

Reservations have to be made in advance and can be made online, though the payment is required to be made only at the cave reception. Price per adult is 5.5 Omani Riyals / AED 55. A train takes you from the main building to the entrance of the cave.

“Good, but you might need to book”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2011 via mobile

This large geological attraction is fascinating not least because of the exhibition that forms part of the whole experience.

It was disappointing we couldn't take pictures inside the caves as the sights were excellent. Be warned there is a lot of steps and humidity is high down there so not ideal for anyone who might be mildly infirm.

There is a little train that takes you from the main building to inside the cave entrance.

You probably would be wise to book! We didn't but were fortunate to get on a tour with only a 40 min wait.

“Fantastic natural attraction with modern infrastructure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2011

The Al Hoota cave is located nearby a town called Hamra about 40KMs from Nizwa, in Oman. From muscat we can reach the cave within 2 hrs by car. It is a natural cave, with wonderful attractions inside, really amazing to observe the presence of water inside it. It can accomadate nearly 500 peoples inside the cave. There is an elecrtic train facility to enter and leave the cave. Very beautifully maintained. There is a small museum, cafeteria, administrative building, parking facilites etc there. It will really be a nice experience to visit this cave with family & kids.
