We found the receptionists unsmiling and unwelcoming, with the exception of one older gentleman. Our room was not serviced until 1700 hours, and not serviced again the next day until we complained. Dirty plates and cups were left outside in our corridor all day.
The charges were extortionate, even by Omani standards. A can of Heineken came out at something like £10 a pint plus 17% 'service'. Half an hour's internet connectivity was something like £8. Omani hotels are expensive, but this was ridiculous.
The staff seemed demoralised and generally spoke poor English, so misunderstandings arose. My partner and I have about five languages between us, but unfortunately we don't whatever language most of them speak: maybe a southern Indian language; certainly not Arabic.
A new hotel complex is being built in Khasab. The competition may do some good. Until then this hotel has a monopoly.
