“Fresh, Well-Cooked, Modern Interpretations of Croatian Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

This modern Mediterranean gem features sophisticated interpretations of Croatian dishes. The beautiful garden seating is both romantic and cozy. The mixed seafood platter was absolutely fantastic, although it may be a little large for one person. The food was especially fresh, vegetables and seafood alike, as well as the traditional Croatian desert crepes.

We were there on a Sunday evening an there weren't many people there but the atmosphere was very comfortably relaxing and conducive to conversation. We loved this place.

“Croatian / Mediterranean feeling”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

We were in Veslo last March, but unfortunately only for a drink since we ate before in another Croatian place in Astoria. We loved the Veslo as it is an excellent mix of the American lifestyle and Croatian bar atmosphere. What I really liked is that they do not hide behind the Italian cuisine like many other NYC restaurants which are run by Croats, and that is the right way. Since we have not eaten here I can not comment the food, but surly you should drop by to taste some excellent Croatian wines like the Karaman Malvasia or the Babic Pilizota...ŽIVJELI!

“Nice Ambiance, Drinks, Food, and Experience!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

We visited Veslo last Valentine's Day. It was actually a visit intended for another restaurant but after looking up places to eat around our neighborhood, Astoria, Veslo came up as one of the better ones.

The place is very quaint. A nice size bar to accommodate enough patrons and a dual occupancy table right by it's side for those on dinner dates. We chose to sit on the bar instead of going further inside where they had the dining tables. It turned out to be a good choice as we ended up watching the Knicks game while we sat, drank and ate.

The menu is not that extensive but this is actually a plus. They had enough selection of fish, meat, pork and poultry for both appetizer and entree and they had servings good enough to be shared by two.

All in all, the food tasted like it was freshly grilled. The drinks were just the right mix, not too watered down but also, not too strong.

A word of advice, while the place may seem like it is kid friendly, it is more intended for the more mature customer. The place is fairly priced for the food and drink offerings on the menu but can be expensive if one doesn't keep tab on what they order.

We enjoyed Veslo so much that it would come up as a choice if we are looking for a place to just grab a bite on one of those random "non-cooking" nights.
