“EXCELLENT!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2012

Rooms are fantastic, service is remarkable and food was great. For dinner, the maneger would come to our table and say Mr and Mrs ####, is your meal to your satisfaction? If you need something, you just ask and you get it. Absolutely goegoues location! There is not much to do here, its a great place to come for a romantic/relazing getaway. The beach and water is magnificant.

We were originally booked to stay in the lagoon/garden view bungalow, thankfully we looked at the ocean/cliff top and changed! The garden/lagooon are two bungalows split so the privacy is limited and the next bunglow looks from balcony to balcony so not private at all. The CLiff tops are much better and very private with your ladder down to the water. Snorkelling is very dissapointing however we may have been spoilt in past holidays?? Breakfast very dissapointing with choice and also pastry and bread stale every meal other than one? There also did not appear to be fresh milk for coffee more a powdered version for a meridien we would have expected better for the price. We would encourage the hotel to put wi-fi in rooms even if it costs more and have free wifi in main lobby,, most people on holidays at this rate generally need to log in to business at some point daily.

We helicoptered in and were so glad we did and strongly encourge the splurge it was tre magnifique!

The trip advisor with "bed bugs" we think may have got bitten by sea lice or similar - it is a tidal lagoon and we recognised the signs a few times and quickly got out of the water and washed off etc.

We had no issues with the rooms and actually thought the place was relatively bug free.

We think the hotel could do so much more with what it has ie. update the pool, include plunge pool options and outdoor showers, increse the privacy of the bungalows etc.

Final note, the hotel is geered for japanese and french, a large contingent of japanese tourists arrived on our stay and the staff were tailored to suit.

Thankfully "we" includes one french speaker and think this certainly made our trip easier.

Room Tip: Cliff top bungalow

Dear NTtravels,

Thank you for sharing your recent stay at Le Meridien Ile des Pins with us and for taking the time to give us feedback about our product and services. We’ve taken good note of your comments regarding our breakfast which we admit somewhat surprised us as we always have fresh milk available for cereals and coffee. We also appreciated your other suggestions about general hotels improvements and for your information, we will be installing some additional WIFI modems throughout the property this year in order that all guests can stay connected more conveniently.
We were very sorry to learn that the snorkelling did not live up to your expectations although we do hope that you had the opportunity to discover our magnificent natural swimming pool!
And yes, you’re right about the helicopter trip to the Isle of Pines, a not to be missed fantastic way to view this incredibly beautiful island from above. A bientôt we hope !

This resort was just delightful. We decided to splurge and have a luxury holiday and were not disappointed. The rooms are really nicely appointed - comfortable and spacious. The gardens and lagoon surrounds are impossibly beautiful. The resort provides snorkelling gear, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, bicycles and all the rest for your use during your stay. The restaurant offers good food at Sydney prices - the breakfast is really great, just what you'd expect. And the view from the restaurant is stunning - looking out over the infinity pool into the lagoon and beyond. Lovely! There are lovely shady little beach huts to relax and read a book or you can choose any number of day trips or go sailing on a pirogue. I want to go back!

Room Tip: The garden cabanas are beautiful - we peeked inside! We were in a garden view room only because tha...

This was a great hotel, however, my partner got absolutely eaten alive by bed bugs on the last night of the stay. We took photos and sent them to the hotel upon our return. They gave us the run around and eventually offered some starwood points but told us we were lying and there were no bed bugs. See photo taken in the bathroom of our bungalow. This is absurd. We did not hear the bugs and my partner woke up with these bites all over her. So please make sure before you go to this otherwise very great hotel that you check they have fumigated, becuase they told us they did not need to do anything.

Dear Morgo87,

Thank you for your review and feedback regarding your recent stay with us.

I was most concerned to learn of your report of bed bugs, in your bungalow. We take this issue very seriously and regret that we failed to meet your expectations during your stay with us.

The care and comfort of our guests and associates are of the utmost priority to Starwood and we proactively, through relevant protocols, take measures to ensure the quality of each guests stay and associates work day. This includes regularly scheduled professional inspections and if necessary eradication protocols.

We have also in place, a thorough training program for our housekeeping and maintenance associates to assist in the early recognition of an infestation. Any room suspected of possible bed bug activity will be quarantined and remains quarantined until a thorough inspection by professionals is conducted.

We are pleased to inform you that the results of our investigation, which included a thorough inspection of the room in which you stayed by LA MILLANOISE FORMULA 4D , showed no evidence of a bed bug infestation. We are constantly investing in the maintenance and restoration of our Hotel which is always an ongoing project.

My apologies for the disappointment this has caused you and your partner and we hope to you will consider staying with us again. If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me direct.

Falling blissfully asleep to the tropical sounds of the surrounding forest and of waves crashing on a distant reef... Combine that with the exceptional friendliness of the locals and one of the most helpful hotel employees we've ever come across.... Need I say more? A wonderful place to stay.

The hotel is set in really stunning scenery. The beach is protected by a reef and the water is clear and fairly shallow. No coral but you can swim all over safely. The bungalows are beautiful, huge living area, comfortable bedroom, huge bathroom and dressing room. Lovely deck. The panoramic bungalows are advertised as having direct access to the beach but in reality they are set up on a rocky outcrop with a precarious ladder that takes you down to the water. Dont think it is worth the extra. The other bungalows are either facing the lawn which leads down to the beach, a few are right on the beach, and the others are facing a natural salt water inlet which looks like a river but the water is crystal clear seawater with jungle the other side. The food is expensive but good quality. At lunch there is a BBQ with a good variety of fish and meat. Service we found efficient. There is really no other dining option, so we ate in the hotel the 4 days we were there. The only other place Kue Ngy is a walk along the beach and wade through the water, or follow a path over the hill, but was closed 2 days we went there. Ile de Pins is a "dry" (no alcohol sold except in resorts) island so if you enjoy a post dinner drink in your room, take your own. Drinks in the resort are expensive. There is a 12kg per person luggage limit, and 3 kg hand luggage, and they monitor it closely, so pack light. The Natural Aquarium is a must. Follow the path but where you think it disappears, opposite a wooden house, just wade through the water and you will find the path again about 20 yards further. The water there is crystal clear, there are huge fish and it is quite stunning. This is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and we have travelled extensively.

Room Tip: the bungalows are worth the difference- but not the Panoramic ones

We last visited the Le Meridien in 2007. We loved the surroundings but the food was very disappointing. Given its close proximity to Australia we thought we would give it a second chance and were pleasantly surprised by the improvements to the menu and food quality.
We stayed in a cliff top bungalow with beautiful views over the Baie d'Oro. The rooms are very large, a little dated but very well maintained. Staff are friendly and most speak English.
We took one of the yellow paddle boats out to the sandy beach on the other side of the bay and made the trip around the corner and found more beautiful islands and aquamarine water. We spotted three turtles on 2 separate occasions both within metres of the paddle boat.
The natural pool is a must do and is only a 15 minute walk from the Resort. Stay clear of the blue ocean kayaks they are back breakers. The stand up paddle boards are great fun at low tide (you can step off rather than fall off!).
The staff arranged a hire car for the day (8400 francs) and we visited the main points of interest. Half a day would suffice as the island is small and sparsely populated. The ocean temperature at the Resort is much warmer than the beaches on the other side of the island.

New Caledonia is now an extremely affordable destination given the current exchange rate. Make the most of the duty free shopping at the international airport - about 20% cheaper than Sydney.

Room Tip: Cliff top bungalows are very private and quiet.
