“Ok but what do they want?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

As the title says 'what do they want'? The museum is trying to cover to many areas (e.g. natural history; Namibian geology; town history; anthroplogy; minerals etc.) and end up not really going into any depts with any of the areas. They should focus on one or two areas and give the visitor a better insight into that area.

“Learned alot.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

Was very interesting to go there. The whole story of Swakopmund and Namibia in there. I’m from Mozambique and was in Swakopmund for 2 full months traveling with my wife. Only went to the museum on our last day of being in Namibia, wished I went there rather on my first day because then I would understand more about that beautiful little town. Defiantly a place every tourist must go visit on their trip.

“A Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

I really enjoyed this small museum, which is filled with very interesting relics from earlier days in Swakopmund. The old Chemist was fascinating, and as for the Dental Surgery, my teeth ached just looking at it! Well worth a look.

“A haunted museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

The museum is a must see when visiting Swakopmund as it contains everything from archeological finds from the area to shipwrecks, history of the German occupation, historic equipment used from heliographs to typewriters.

The cost to enter was N$ 25 per person (U$ 3) and a visitor must allow at least 2 hours to explore each exhibit.

The best for last.... The medical exhibit showing the dentist's surgery is supposedly haunted. A friend (one of the local pilots) was recounting how a visiting attorney and his wife were walking through the museum on the 2nd of January 2013, when alone at the exhibit they turned around only to see the dentist in his 1930's attire standing behind them. A scream from the pair brought the curator running to investigate after which they left the museum. We never saw the ghost on our visit but maybe another reviewer can confirm the experience.

“German influence”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Town located on western coast of Namibia, with German influence,as a result of having history of German colony.Sights in the area are highest sand dunes located outside of this small town. Can actually do sliding down dunes,or of interest various pieces of quartz. If you have interest in mining business you may be able to access restricted areas where iron ore is being mined.History of Europeans having adversely treated indigenous people resulting in present day ancestors living at poverty level.Namibia a country of contrasts which offers a variety of terrain from west to east and contrast in the social makeup of this independent state.Very warm and receptive population and very travelers who wish to understand the transition of a state with a history of abuse by powerful nations before the present day country arrived.
