“Nicely located and clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

Nice city hotel right by the ocean. The roof top bar has a lovely view, but be aware that the city of Swakopmund closes at 11 pm and the bar at 8 pm. Not a joke, trust me, so consider going to the bar for very early pre drinks before dinner. The bartender, who looked like he was twelve years old, was friendly, but absolutely lost. It took him 15 minutes to open a beer bottle and if you order a cocktail be sure of that he will put the ingredients in a blender, all of them, no matter what drink you’re having. He even blended whole limes and poured directly in a glass and called it a Caiprinhia. After a while it just became kind of charming as we got to the point of just laughing instead of getting annoyed, after all it is Africa and he really loved his blender. Unfortunately the last evening the blender broke so he couldn’t make us any Caiprinhas or Mojitos.

Modern, clean and small hotel. Very nicely decorated. Rooms clean and comfortable. The large bathroom. The rooftop terrace offers views of the surrounding area and Atrlantyk. Cocktail at sunset on the roof of the hotel is an amazing experience. The only drawback, though not as big a breakfast, which was in the building next door.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

My wife and I spent three nights at the Swakop Boutique Hotel in mid-September 2012. Swakop has dozens of hotels of all shapes and sizes in a compact area around downtown and the waterfront, and we had spent hours scrutinizing TripAdvisor reviews back in May 2012. But our top three choices were already full, so we went with this option that our travel agent (Bonita @ go2africa.com) suggested. It turned out to be a good choice for us.

The hotel consists of two buildings; the lobby takes up the ground floor of the left-most building, and the building to the right has a restaurant (Zum Kaiser) on the bottom floor, and more rooms on the top. Our room was above the restaurant, and we could reach it by either taking an elevated bridge from the main hotel, or by stairs that pass the restaurant entrance. There was a floor of conference rooms between us and the restaurant, so we couldn't hear any noise.

The reception staff were very friendly and welcoming. After checking in, we explored the rooftop terrace on the main building, which has great views of town and the ocean. We found our room to be bright and cheery, the bathroom spacious, and the whole property very clean. We had a big TV and a bigger bed. Our room itself wasn't quite as eccentric as I expect from a "boutique" hotel, but the lobby and the hallways in the main building were festooned with interesting modernisms. We enjoyed the top-floor views uphill towards the town, which take in several interesting and historic buildings and a few palm trees. Our only minor complaint with the room was lack of good ventilation; we could only open windows a crack, and there were no fans. Swakop is humid after the morning coastal fog rolls in, but our room had no good way to flush this humidity out later in the day, and it was hard to dry clothes. We enjoyed the complimentary wi-fi and TV…it was nice to catch up on world events after a week off the grid.

The hotel location was perfect: Swakopund Boutique Hotel is equidistant between the waterfront and the heart of the historic and touristy downtown. The whole area is easy to explore by foot. In addition to the yummy Zum Kaiser restaurant directly below us, we were a short walk away from a dozen other restaurants, and at least one bakery and a supermarket.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Stayed here for one night after a tiring drive en route from Sossusvlei to Damaraland. As we approached the coast, we were surprised to encounter fog, and a decidedly chilly wind. But a warm welcome at this pleasant hotel revived our spirits. The hotel is situated in a quiet road just across from the promenade and ocean, with shops and banks nearby. Modern and clean, it looked a better bet than some of the other hotels we came across.
Our room was located above an adjoining restaurant, and could be reached by a small footbridge from the hotel, or directly from the restaurant steps. It was large and comfortable, with a wonderful bathroom containing bath and shower.
We took dinner at this restaurant ( I think it's called Zum Kaiser) in front of a blazing log fire, and food was good and reasonably priced (N$340 for two, including 2 large glasses of good wine, beer and bottled water).
There is a private car park to the rear.
All in all, a good little hotel.

We arrived in Swakopmund and discovered this gem! Close to the jetty in the middle of town. Very new, super clean and everything you needed! The staff were so friendly. We had a Tv in our room and could even watch some South African sport and MNET. The room also had a small balcony and sea view. Breakfast was in the building next door and they even packed us breakfast the last morning because we had to leave very early! Lovely bed and linen, really deserve at least 4 stars!

When we arrived @ the hotel, we were sooooo tired and jet lagged and were looking forward to our sea view room! Well, the view is contrived...and when we asked for a room with a real view, we were told that this room has among the best view we have! Certainly couldn't hide the disappointment and to our surprise, the charming Ms. Anna Jorge, the hotel manager showed up and apologized about not really having a view but wanted to offer everything possible in her power to make our stay memorable! From attending to our every need in detail, to getting us the best table @ at the best restaurant in town, to a fabulous dinner at the Zum Kaiser restaurant on the house! She has managed to induce the same energy in her team who go over and beyond to help you with a smile. In the end we didn't mind that the hotel really doesn't have sea views (except the roof terrace), but is steps away from the beach.
