“Excellent food and service, with variable views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

I must have eaten in The Tug about 15 -20 times between Feb 2012 and Dec 2012. The food was consistently excellent apart from once, when it was only average;and once when I received a dish I hadn't ordered. Seafood is their speciality with the calamari being superb, only bettered by "The Anchors" in Walvis Bay. The oysters were never quite up to the standard of the Jetty and annoyingly never properly seperated from the shell. The service was always excellent, sometimes overly so as I felt a little rushed. I took to ordering my main course after I had eaten my starter. Like most places, the wine list is limited but a bottle to suit most tastes. Some tables have excellent views over the ocean, but some are in the middle of the restaurant and some overlook the car park !. Booking is essentail, especially at week-ends. If they are full, try walking along the pier to the Jetty.
The inside bar is a bit claustophobic, better to take a fleecy and have a drink outside first.
There is an upstairs deck which is quite fun, especially if you are a large group.
Prices across the board are about 10% more expensine than the Jetty.

“A tug on the jetty”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Christmas Eve and the restaurant was packed and buzzing. The food was just above average and the service left a little to be desired but we take on board it was peak season. They seated us near the main entrance which meant a constant throughflow of trafficf, waiters with steaming plates, etc. but the atmosphere and the view were great.

“Namibian fish supper”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

A restaurant in an old tug boat, on the edge of the beach, bustling and lively, where we were pleased to have a good choice of fish and a very satisfactory supper.

“Very good Fish Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

The Tug is famous in Swakopmund for Fish. It's located next to the Jetty at the beach with plenty of Parking Spaces. The Personnel is very friendly and helpful. (They even have some travelling tipps). The Menu is extensive. We had the Kingklip which was very good. (A plus - The sauce is served separate). Prices are okay. The Tug is mostly quite crowded so Table reservation is on Weekends a must.
