“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2012

We stayed here in May 2012 for 3 nights. Our room was situated in the garden and so we were able to eat breakfast outside each morning, which was excellent by the way with very friendly and helpful staff. The room was spacious, modern and very clean and it had a fridge. The reception area was in the process of being refurbished, but that didn't present us with any discomfort. Brigadoon is a boutique B&B very close to the seafront where there are good places to have lunch, as well as being situated a few minutes walk from the banks, post office and shops. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again on hopefully another trip to Swakopmund in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: Choose a room located in the garden area, rather than one of the rooms by the side entrance.

Brigadoon is a small guesthouse in Swakopmund that is very close to the center of town. 5 minutes walk from the beach (The Mole), the guesthouse is clean and comfortable - the rooms are very recently refurbished. Each room has a TV, with four channels - indoor accommodation was our week's treat after camping in Etosha and the news channel was hugely exciting...but otherwise we didn't watch the TV because we spent our time out in Swakopmund.

The bed was comfy and there was a kettle for making tea and coffee. Each room had a little patio and the decor was very pretty. There's a big disparity between the rooms though - Room 1 is spectacular in its own little building and has space for a sofa and coffee table. Room 7 is right by the gate, smaller and I'd imagine it could be noisy with people entering and leaving close by.

There was no wifi when we stayed, but the manager (Kathleen) let us use her computer to check a couple of things, which we thought was a nice gesture. Breakfast was served outside on the patio and consisted of fruit salad, toast, cold meat and cheese and a variable hot dish (first day was egg, bacon and beans, second day the beans were replaced by mushroom and there was a sausage added).

Kathleen was very helpful - she recommended to us a couple of restaurants and offered help booking tours or excursions. She used to be a tour guide and shared info on the local sights (see the Kristall Galerie) and attractions. I was really impressed by how helpful she was. Brigadoon also offers laundry service, which was fast and relatively inexpensive. This is a must if you have been camping in the national parks and the desert for the week prior!

I'd happily stay here again, if I could have a room from 1 to 4. Not sure I'd be as happy with 5-7, which look onto a corridor instead of the very pretty English-style garden. Four out of five for me, because the refrigerator in the room was very loud when the compressor clicked on and it woke me up a couple of times, rooms 5 to 7 don't look great and there was no wifi. Not absolutely perfect, but close enough to make me happy.

Room Tip: Room 1 is huge. Rooms 1 to 4 have a garden view and are pretty. Not sure that I'd want to stay i...

the rooms were very modern and comfortable with all facilities and a lovely deck overlooking the quiet courtyard garden where we were served a great breakfast.the reception area was under renovation but this didnt spoil our 3 day stay. we were really close to everything in swakopmund and fully recommend.

We stayed at Brigadoon for 2 nights in March 2012. At first glance this place doesn't look like much, the reception area is dingy and I was apprehensive of the rooms... A bit awkward as you access the rooms through a side entrance, situated in the back garden of a large house. But I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms are set in lovely, lush gardens and each room has a private patio. Rooms are spacious and very modern with an African touch, great shower and free wireless internet. The best part is that breakfast is served on your patio each morning, a full selection of juices, coffee, fruit salad and hot breakfast. Wonderful!

Overall, a great stay, very close to the beach!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2012

Room was understated if a little cheap and plasticky , small but clean- definitely cramped for 3. Nice idea serving breakfast outside and food was to be complimented. Unfortunately we all felt nauseas due to the overpowering smell of sulpher fumes which seeped into the small room from the bathroom drains , however we were unable to sleep with the windows open due to having the room next to the gate. We could have been more agreeable dealing with the limited space if the smell hadn't been so bad.
Location very good, breakfast staff all very helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: Select a room closer to the garden definitely not the room next to the Gate.

We are a family of 4 traveling for vacation. We stayed 2 nights in march 2012.

This is fabulously located, 50 meters from the beach. Nice service, especially with the waiters that brought our breakfast to the porch each morning. Several choices and very tasty. The room is fine, but kind of crowded for 4 people. The bathroom and shower do not have doors or curtains.

There is no A/C and for us the wi-fi was down most of the time.

The courtyard is very pretty and quiet. It is very safe with a separate keyed gate to enter the courtyard, key to the doors and a private alarm. There is a safe in the room.

Overall, it was nice. A bit cramped, but pretty, clean and good service. Breakfast is good.
