My girlfriend and I stayed for a week in Dar Lazuli, which is ideally situated right next to the souks, just a stone’s throw from the beach and even closer to the cafe on the main square that sells delicious Morrocan pancakes for breakfast. It’s great for getting a real authentic taste of Moroccan life. If you’ve never been to Essaouira before, it’s got all the charm of Morocco and a great beach, but it’s also got a much more relaxed atmosphere than the bustle of somewhere like Marrakech.
We stayed in the ground floor apartment at Dar Lazuli which provided wonderful self-catering accommodation - charmingly decorated, a huge and incredibly comfortable double bed, alongside a kitchen and sitting room. And of course use of the roof terrace with lovely views across the city. Housekeepers Rachid and Latifa are so friendly and helpful, making sure that we were taken care of and telling us about what we could do, although I wish I could’ve remembered a bit more French. And Rachel, the UK owner, was incredibly conscientious - arranging taxis for our arrival and departure and providing lots of information beforehand. We will definitely go back at some point in the future.
