“Simple Riad in a good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2010

The rida is in a good location in the heart of the medina. The rooms are nice size, but just simple and not luxurious, bed wasn't really comfortable. There was WiFi and a heater but no TV, no A/C. Owner was very friendly and helpful and willing to assist to ensure any of your needs are met. Breakfast served up on the rooftop was basic but nice way to start the day. Like all medinas you need to carry your luggage through to the riad, so make sure you organise a porter. Essaouira is an interesting fishing village and quite laid back although the fisherman get a bit heated with each other when the catch arrivles. Nice place to visit for a day or two.

Spent a great couple of days here, excellent location right in the heart of town with plenty of restaurants cafes and souks to choose from and a short walk to the beach. Friendly staff, family owned feel to it. Converted school house with lots of character, and rooftop terraces for breakfast and sunbathing.

nice place, good conditions, best support, very very friendly people, big rooms,
just on of the places to be, we find all places in and arround Essaouira with the help of the stuff in this hotel, it is not a small riad, as we found in other places, because it was a school before, but the rooms are in beautiful marroccan style with some very nice details, some are maisonette-like with the possibility to stay with 4 and more persons, you are really in the heart of the medina and after one day you know where you are, and you know that is very cool and safe, much better than Marrakech, small, calm, nice and friendly and very authentic.

Riad Watier is the most charming riad to have as a "home base" while enjoying Essaouira. This eclectically decorated riad, centrally located in the Medina, has an amazing staff, superior massage facilities, a gorgeous roof terrace, warm dining room, and garden patio. They also offered one of the most memorable dinners in all of Morocco, culminating in a fish tagine that was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. A riad is in effect a home, and Jean-Gabriel has infused Riad Watier with his wit, energy and charm, and does a great job of making sure his guests feel at home. He woke and made us tea at 5:30 AM to insure that we made our early morning bus; his happy smile and handshake framed our time in this city.

We arrived here and were offered a drink on the roof terrace - we had nice wine and were also brought olives. Our room was huge with living area, bedroom, shower room and a toilet. The riad is quite big with two roof terraces - one covered which is used for breakfast and another is open with sun loungers. The decor is great with lots of really interesting moroccan artwork on the walls. Although the riad is quite big it has a cosy feel to it, a bit like staying in a home rather than a soul-less hotel. Also two tortoises live in the courtyard!
The staff were great. The owner and his family were away whilst we were there but the other staff were friendly and helpful and recommended good restaurants within our price-range, a good bar (Taros - big roof terrace with blankets provided to snuggle in if cold on a windy evening, and live music) organised horse-riding with a local stable and were happy for us to use the internet in the office. Basically anything we asked for they were happy to accomodate or help with! The riad is in a great location to explore the medina, port and beach and is just a minute's walk off one of the main streets through the medina.

We found that Riad Watier was really easy to find and not a long walk within the medina walls. Once inside it was a gem. The size of the place was great with rooms for eating, a library, bedrooms the size of appartments and a terrace with a sea view on two sides! The food there was absolutely fantastic, and the breakfast we ate was the best in morrocco. The main attraction for us was the quiryky side- which does not really come across on here. For any art lovers or anyone who likes the place they are staying in to have a bit of individuality it is great. There were various paintings and sculptures all around and the owner was great for tips on finding and buying similar art in morocco. The rest of the staff here were lovely too and always smiley. The roof terrace was great for sunbathing as the beach in essoueira can get a bit windy, and our room also had a private terrace. The location was pretty central with all the restaraunts and the beach just a few minutes away. I would definately recommend this to others!
