“Perfect Place to stay in Old Median”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

If you are looking for a nice and comfortable place to stay in the old Median, then look no further. Me and a friend stayed here for 2 nights. It was quite empty as it was during Ramadan, and Hayat upgraded our room for free. The place is very clean and comfortable, and the roof terrace is beautiful. We also loved the breakfast which was included in the price in the room, and felt very much homemade with great care. Hayat was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend and come back.

Ryad Watier is a lovingly restored old Islamic school, situated in the heart of the medina. Its art-loving charismatic owner Jean-Gabriel, and his delightful assistants Hayat and Adeline, welcomed us with drinks and biscuits on the sun drenched terrace.
Our bedroom was very spacious and comfortable. We even had our fire lit one night to make it more cosy for us!
We shared our evening meal with our jovial host and other guests in the beautifully furnished dining room. The cook produced some spicy caviar of courgettes and a chicken and lemon tagine among others.
Watching the sunrise and sunset from the terrace was a dazzling spectacle of colours.
Breakfasts were homely and delicious: pancakes, omelettes, homemade bread and the best orange marmalade we have ever tasted, and fresh orange juice... We had to make sure that the herring gulls did not eat our left overs though, but the cook was an expert at clearing up the tables very quickly.
With a delightful view of the ocean, what a treat!
We would love to return! Thank you Jean-Gabriel and your lovely team!

What a perfect stay in this charming place.
Sunny riad, full of paintings, nice staff, everyday was a different tone
on the magical "palette" of Essaouira.
Breakfast time there, up on the terrasse, is the best way to start a souiri day..
By the way, this hotel is so different than others, cause the owner pay attention to every guest
with a special personnal touch.
Thanks to Hayat and Jean gabriel for this lovely trip

After seeing four goats up a tree and then having a great fish dinner on the beach we were ready for a bit of rest. we were not prepared for the grat hospitality we got at this Riad. 1st you need to hire a wagon to carry your luggage if you have a bit. we were on a 4 week trip that also would include a visit to Paris so we had more than usual and the mobile porter was very useful. The owner met us at the door and carried the luggage to our room . the room was very comfortable . We then then went for a walk . The town is fascinating . Upon our return we were offered an aperitif and had a nice chat. the books and art on the walls made us very comfortable .

A great place to stay.

Room Tip: The top floors are near the router for WiFi.

We have just returned from Essaouira and stayed at the riad for 2 nights. Our room was just perfect for the4 of us and we all slept so well. The room is very calming so ideal when you've been in the hustle and bustle of the medina. The staff there are so helpful and took time to give us directions and to make recommendations and reservations for us . Take their advise about the Hammam, we loved it!

Nothing was too much trouble and I felt very very relaxed in this perfect place.

Room Tip: We stayed in Pero Jago, effect for 4 of us and very quiet.

We stayed recently for two nights, and concur with the other reviews about the helpful owner and his assistant, Hayat. We enjoyed a spacious room, loved the breakfasts on the terrace (the cook gets up early each morning to make a delicious farina pancake called A Thousand Holes) complete with homemade marmalades and jams, fresh orange juice, crepes, etc and a delightful view to the ocean. The location was perfect--convenient to the sites without being right in the middle of the busy street scene. All this for a very reasonable price--wish we could have extended our stay here.

We stayed for four nights and had a fabulous time. It is a great place to stay within the city walls and all the staff were welcoming and helpful. The rooms were spacious and creatively designed which added to the calm atmosphere. Breakfasting on the roof is a real treat, looking out across the town is a great way to start the day. Essaouria is a great place to visit, with some great shopping and places to eat.
