“Laid back Morocco”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Arrived at 11.30 and we were greeted by the owner , our room was ready and we were offered breakfast on the roof terrace followed by a briefing about Essaouira, what a wonderful start.

We stayed in the Madada room, a spacious room with an even more spacious bathroom and our own terrace overlooking the ocean.the terrace is equipped with a table and two chairs but there is enough space for two sun chairs , which would be a great addition.

We took breakfast each day on the terrace , there was also the option to have it served in our room.

Recommendations for restaurants proved to be very good

The room overlooked the gardens outside of the city walls , perhaps this area could be improved as it is a bit run down but do not let this put you off , look out for the " cat lady" who twice a day feeds the kittens in the park , whilst we were there we counted at least 12 kittens that she was looking after.

The hotel location is perfect for exploring the Medina , in a quiet area but minutes away from the centre and the beach .

taxis can drop you off virtually at the door , a bonus because no vehicles are allowed inside the city walls and you would perhaps need a guide to find hotels in the Medina .

Taxis from the airport are fixed price at 150 Dirhams and take approx. 20 minutes

Location is amazing(roof terrace overlooks the ocean), service is superb!!!!! helpful and friendly when you need them but otherwise you're left to enjoy yourself which for me is the perfect balance.
Rooms are big and cool and super clean.
Drinking wine on the terrace as the sun goes down with the family cats lounging around..its like hanging out in a friends house..but one that really spoils you. If I come back to essaouria I will come straight back here.

We stayed 4 nights in Salma room. Spacious, comfortable and clean. We could walk out onto large terrace where we were served our delicious breakfast, consisting of local fruits (different each day), yummy yoghurt, crepes, breads and eggs if wanted. Views of the stunning beach fro our seats in dappled shade.
Location was excellent - on the Medina wall close to all the action. Plenty of choice of restaurants - Madada recommended a number - all of those we tried were very good. We also spent a morning at the cookery school, L’Atelier Madada which is just below the hotel. That was brilliant, see separate review! Went out on Quadbikes with Palma Quad again great fun and reviewed separately.
The hotel staff very helpful and friendly and did everything to ensure our stay was enjoyable. Nothing was too much effort . We did a lot in the 4 days but there is still a lot we can do so we will return to this lovely Moroccan resort which never gets too hot due to its location on the Atlantic coast, though this does mean it can be windy!
The two cats at the hotel, Sultan and Sultana are beautiful and very regal. In addition there are a pair of seagulls (a couple who were quite amorous during the night!!!) who own the terrace, we named him Jonathan! An exciting little break with lots to do and see. Madada was perfect! Overall Essaouira is a lovely place to stay and now so easily accessible with the Easyjet flight from Luton.

Room Tip: We chose Salma as it had a walk in shower rather than a bath!

Madada Mogador is a small well run riad on the edge of the Medina with great views across the beach and sea. It is ideally placed for the wonderful fishing port, walks on the beach and shopping and dining in the medina, everything including the bus station is near by. The rooms were good and the service was great. I would recommend at least one visit to the restuarant La Table as it was by far the best food I had during my four days in Essaouira.

Room Tip: Most but not all the rooms have balconies looking out to the sea. There are two double rooms that op...

Finishing a wonderful 4 night stay at Madada Mogador. Rooms were beautiful, comfortable and Wafa and her team could not have been more helpful. Breakfast was perfect and the roof top terrace has an amazing view of the beach. The restaurant next door La Table de Madada serves the best food in Essaouira and pop down to the fish market where you can buy fresh fish daily and have it cooked for you at one of the small restaurants on the port. April was a perfect time to visit as the season is starting but it is not too busy.

Really liked this place and this town. The staff was great, and were EXTREMELY helpful in helping us to navigate events, things to do, tours, etc. There is a little cheese shop outside of town, and they arranged a great trip for us there, Check it out.

You are outside of the medina enough to where the nights are quiet, the breakfast is pretty good, good enough to get your day started right. The fireplaces in the rooms were such a nice touch, but also necessary and its gets super cold at night.

Oh one more thing, if you can be there to check out the fish market on the weekend, do it, and bring your camera!

I"m not a big fan of guided tours, but this place hooked us up with someone who really knew her history and we got to ask a lot of questions to our guide, one on one, its such a unique place (coming from the states) that I'd recommend a private tour so you can stop where you want to stop and ask questions when you want to.

By day 4 we were itching to try something new so we moved on, but before that take a 4 wheeler through the dunes, we really enjoyed that!

We stayed here for our last few nights Morocco . Our original room looked out over the street so we changed to one with a view of the sea and a veranda. The outlook was great and nice to sit out.
The staff are very helpful and drinks on the roof in the afternoon are a nice touch. We also chose breakfast up there each day as it was nice to enjoy the sea air and look out over the beach.

The old town here has the market but it is much easier to deal with than Marrakech , busy and some hassle, or Fes, stifling and just awful. We enjoyed looking around and bought a few things to take home.
One afternoon we attended the mogador restaurant's cookery class. Lots of fun and a trip to the spice market which was interesting.
Three days was enough, we don't surf and the weather was mixed. However, along with the desert trip this was the best part of Morocco for us and the mogador was an ideal location to enjoy a relaxing end to the trip.
