“Great beach but its known as the windy city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

The beach is beautiful and long so almost impossible to imagine feeling really crowded. We were there at Eid at the end of Ramadan and so it was very busy but still lots of space. A kilometer from the Medina and Port are well equiped surf shacks where the emphasis is on kite surfing - which tells you that this is usually a very windy place. Great for the kites but not so good for sunbathing. Temperatures are also much lower than Marrakech - which in August was a good thing.

“Beautiful beach!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

I arrived to Essaouira beach expecting it to be extremely windy and impossible to sunbathe or swim. However, when I arrived the beach was very calm and not crowded at all, which was fantastic! Expect to be hassled by various people to go horse/camel riding or even to buy some cake (If you don't like cake, don't worry, the next question will be "Hashish?"), but anybody who has spent any time in Morocco will already be used to this sort of thing. The beach is HUGE and the vast majority of it was deserted when I was there. Lovely for a long walk or a swim.

“Huge, clean but VERY windy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

This is not a place for sunbathing as the wind whips the sand around, but it makes a nice walk and paddle.

“Windy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013 via mobile

A great beach. Apply sun screen, extremely misleading conditions- the cool wind hides the blistering strength of the sun. Good beach football, often is join-in-able. If sitting amongst other Maroccans, don't strip off entirely, out of respect.

“A very long beach with loads of space”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

Very popular sand beach - great for swimming, parasailing, kitesailing and surfing, playing football....the footpathed promenade follows the beach and the main road all the way down to where the road turns to the next beach of Diabat. At this point there are small cafes, surf board hire and repair, horses and camels for hire and a large carpark.
