“Charming and very authentic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

We stayed in this hotel almost every year since more than 10 years and each time has been a special moment. We specially appreciate the breakfast on the roof terrace, and not to forget every evening the beautiful Maroccan dinner in a very romantic atmosphere. We have always been warmly welcomed.

We had requested that the Villa book us a taxi to pick us up on arrival but when we got there in the pouring rain there was no one to meet us.
The room was terrible. It was damp and we were right next to an adjoining room which meant that there was no privacy at all.
We decided to leave the next day to find somewhere else to stay and at first the front of house staff attempted to charge us for the subsequent nights that we'd booked until the manager thankfully stepped in.

My husband and I, plus our two dogs, spent one month at Villa Maroc. We rented the Suite which is equipped with a small kitchen as well as a living room. Younes, the owner, was extremely kind, accommodating and helpful with every request we had. Every single employee that we came in contact with was warm, kind and genuine.
The design and furnishings are very simple and perfectly in keeping with the feel of the property. Each night candles are light throughout the property and the place takes on a magical feeling.
The suite is set off of the main hotel terrace and we truly felt as if we had our own house during the month that we stayed.
I have recommended this property many times to friends and am hoping to go back this weekend just for a quick getaway!
You cannot go wrong with this lovely treasure!

Very nice riad with beautiful view on Essaouira's harbor and beach. Breakfast service was nice and location in the medina perfect. The raw building nicely decorated with typical accessories makes you feel somewhere else. You spend there a restful and peaceful stay in Mogador city.

Room Tip: Room 5 is like a peaceful dungeon with very nice view, you feel being in heaven

Villa Maroc surprised us ! It's charm, beautifully decorated in super Maroccan traditional and modern style and friendly people. We had a room at the top floor with seaside view. Each morning breakfast on the terrace and looking at the sea. Beautiful Maroccon dinners.
A super experience in Essaouira !

We had planned to spend three days at Villa Maroc but doubled our time there as it was so perfect. The place radiates calm and is quite beautiful . The food is delicious, the staff attentive and warm without being over friendly. We have recommended it to all our friends and I really hope that they follow our guidance because I know of no other place where they could have such a wonderful holiday.

I have traveled a lot, all over the globe, and this is one of the best places to stay ever for me. An extremely relaxing, wonderful and expansive riad and excellent service. our room was modern and clean. The food in the hotel is superb, you get to chose you own location to eat from outside in the breeze to some intimate little nook or cranny, really quite charming, and the food seems to keep coming all night. It is the best food in Essouaria by a long chalk (ok I quite like the Tagines in the local restaurants but there are only so many over cooked and soggy vegetables that a man can eat in his life). It seems a tad expensive at around £20 per person (dinner can easily be found for less than £10 a head in the Medina) but money well spent for a good evening in. The enormous complimentary breakfast is also rather wonderful eaten on the roof terrace overlooking the harbour and the beach, but beware the seagulls, many a Morrocan doughnut was lost from inattention.

The only down side of the place, and this is reflected throughout Morocco, is alcohol is hard to find and expensive when you do find it, a small scotch in the bar cost £8 and the cheap, cheap bottle of wine was £20, it is a bit like going into rehab for me. There is one booze shop in the city and it is just outside of the Medina walls at the end of Avenue Mohammed Zerkatouni where it meets Avenue Moulay Youssef.

I read some of the negative comments here about the the labyrinthine layout of the place, well it's true and I got lost on a regular basis, the different floors are accessed by a number of very narrow spiral staircases (think sword fights up tower in castles) with uneven stairs, to get to our room I would always take the wrong stairs, climb up to the roof walk to the next stair well and drop down a floor to ours, that's just me though. To be honest I thought it majorly added to its charm and character but if you are very unfit (no lifts as far as i saw) or old or disabled this Riad may not be for you.

We also took a trip out to Les Jardins De La Villa Maroc for £50 per couple including lunch. Wow what a beautiful place, fantastic pool, exquisite buildings and the food was superb. We have booked it up for a family holiday next year, yup, it really is that good.

Oh one more thing, don't give up on Essaouria when you first get there, it's relaxed charm takes a while to dawn on you. I nearly got on the bus back to Marrakesh on the first day, so glad I didn't. Seems too quiet at first, but it's just shy really.

Room Tip: As far as I could tell all the rooms were excellent.
