“Breathtaking view from high up over the scariest sea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Well worth a visit. The sea crashes like you have never seen sea crash. It's awesome! If you like city wall ramparts, canons, rocks waves, foaming sea fume, spray, heights, wind. These ramparts are blooming exciting and exhilarating. Not to be missed

“Beautiful view of the ocean.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

This is a great place to take photos of the ocean. We were there at sunset as the waves crashed against the rocks. Truly a magical place. Take your camera.

“excellent photography”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

The ramparts are a great spot for photography - the waves crashing against the wall, birds flying, the colours of the fishing boats in the distance, rocks. Go early evening or sunset for best dramatic light.
Careful were you step - the surface can be very uneven.
There are little shop set in the inner wall of the ramparts - mostly gift and craft shops. Prices are surprisingly a lot higher than in Marrakesh - especially for the metal lamps / iron works.

“Essential part of any visit to Essaouira”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Close to many of the craft/gift shops at the end of old part of town. Head up to the ramparts for a calm and excellent view of the coast and the rest of the town. I was surprised how little hawking went on up here which made it all the more pleasurable (only one very subtle guy when we visited). Great photographic location too!

“A fantastic vantage point for watching some truly awesome waves”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

If gazing at massive ocean waves crashing on to the shore gives you a tingle then this is a great place to indulge your passion. The best place is the circular bastion where all the local artists have their little shops; looking northwards you get a truly spectacular seascape as the waves smash on to the rocks; in the opposite direction you can stroll along the sea wall with its line of cannons pointing menacingly out over the ocean. Take the opportunity to breathe deeply and take in what must be some of the freshest air in all of Africa.
