This annual festival in late June presents the lively music of the people of the region, the Gnaouans. This devotional music is a blend of Berber and sub-Saharan voices, rhythm, and dance. It's a professionally produced festival with stages complete with lighting and video screens on the beach and in the medina and in smaller venues throughout this beautiful seacoast town. The town fills with mostly Moroccan people and their families along with many visitors from all over Africa and Europe. Everyone mingles, dancing all the time to the wonderful rhythms of groups from Morocco, other African countries, and European-based Ganaou-rock fusion bands. Hotels and good food abound in this fishing port/travel destination 4 hours south of Casablanca.
