“Great place, great people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

Being met at the bus stop and led straight to the Riad was great.
The Riad exceded my expectations, and like many before me, I extended my stay by two days without hesitation..
On arrival I was upgraded to a larger room, very nice indeed. Large by Moroccan standards, with great shower and very comfy bed. Everything was spotlessly clean.
The terrace was great, with shaded areas and a nice water feature.
The staff were all so kind and helpful, and the owners were simply charming.
If you want to spoil yourself, then look no further, this will not disappoint.
This is quality.
Value for money this is outstanding. The breakfast is as good as it gets.
The location is perfect, just off one of the main pedestrian streets, very easy to find. Quiet at night.
I was genuinely sad to leave this place - such nice people, and such a splendid Riad.
(I noted a bad review was posted while I was there. It was clearly posted by a jealous competitor, as it was absolute nonsense. It just goes to show how good this place is, and how well it is doing).
Look no further, book this and you will certainly enjoy your stay in Essaouira.
Such a nice place!

Stayed at Riad Malaika for just one night but what a joy it was! We were met by one of the staff at the bus station & taken there which made arrival very easy! It is a beautifully restored building which each room having individual, traditional features along with modern twists. All the staff & the owners were incredibly friendly, welcoming & helpful, giving us lots of information to help us make the best of our short stay. Breakfast was lovely with fresh bread, honey cake, a selection of preserves, coffee, & beautiful, freshly squeezed orange juice. Free wifi was very useful. Also, despite us arriving after several days of rain, the sun decided to shine in the morning & we managed to spend an hour on the lovely roof terrace too. We would definitely recommend this to others looking for a relaxing stay in a bustling town.

Riad Malaika is in a good location in a small street of the Medina, close to both main streets. The rooms are clean and nicely furnished, albeit not very recent and some furnishings are a bit worn. Bathroom is quite small. The main hall , the reception area and the lounge are not very large, so it is not easy to relax there too long. Staff is welcoming, friendly and helpful. Nice Riad for a short stay.

If you want to truly discover the charms of a riad and experience an authentic media, this is the place to go! Riad Malaika is minutes away from the historic port of Essaouira-Mogador, the bustling fish market and its restaurants, and the 16th century walls of a Portuguese fort overlooking the Atlantic. My husband and I stayed in the top-floor suite of Riad Malaika for a little extra privacy and space and for our enjoyment of a beautiful terrace overlooking the rooftops. Travelers are welcome with open arms at Malaika; I saw staff treating every guest with the same respect and passion to share information. And by the way: the breakfast is somptuous!

This really is a gem of a place to stay! Central to the old and most interesting part of Essaouira although in a quiet street and near to the port, beaches and great restaurants and cafes nearby to suit all budgets. The owners and staff are so friendly, nothing too much trouble. The decor is true Moroccan at its best and the personal touches to the smallest detail in the rooms such as the quality soap, roses, joss sticks, quality artefacts and books on Moroccan art, daily bottles of water with glasses, add to the ambience and comfort. The varied breakfasts are excellent and can be eaten in the comfortable lounge/eating area or on the roof terrace. There was a log fire while we were there which gave a comfortable lounge area to relax in the cooler evenings. This beautiful Riad offers so much for the amount they charge - we definitely recommend it and feel lucky to have chosen it (with the help of previous trip advisor reviewers).

We were really disappointed by this riad - particularly compared to the other places we stayed in morocco for the same price:

- rooms are dirty (to the extent that we put t-shirts over the pillows to avoid putting our faces directly on the pillowcases and luckily I'd brought my own towel).

- we were given one small roll of toilet paper the day we first arrived and that was it - we had to keep asking daily for a fresh roll...same with the water - we were only given one small bottle each the day we first arrived in our room and that was it.

- the breakfast was terrible. There was a measly selection and the quality poor. We ended up buying breakfast straight after leaving the hotel in the mornings.

- the pillows need replacing.

- it's overpriced as a riad and we really wish that we'd stayed somewhere else on essaouria.

- the French couple who own it are really grumpy - saved only by their very polite and attentive Moroccan staff.

The only positives are that it has a very nice looking entrance hall, the wifi connection is food and the location is central in the medina but quiet for sleeping.

We stayed just one night, but would have loved another night in Essaouira and this Riad - it was such a nice break from larger Moroccan cities and the Riad lovely, with service way beyond what we paid. It is down a quiet street very close to a food plaza and many shops. The Riad is lovely with a nice main floor for sitting around, and a terrace (which we didn't have time to enjoy!). Our room was on the second floor, but very quiet and cute (nothing fancy, no tv, but decorated warmly and very clean, the bathroom the same). The hotel met us at the Supratours bus stop, which was nice to get off the bus then be met and led to the Riad. Both owners we met the short time we were there, and they were really friendly (along with the rest of the staff). Breakfast was very peaceful, served on the ground floor with nice Moroccan pastries, juice, coffee, and an egg. Agree with the other reviews - this is a great place to stay, again, for the price a real treat!
