“Mixed experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2014

Good points: Hotel was attractive inside, and well located in the old town medina. Easy walking distance to anything you might want to see in the medina. Reception, lounge, breakfast room were tastefully decorated in traditional style. Breakfast was very good.

Bad points: desk staff were cold, hostile, and supercilious. If you like being sneered at in a high handed manner for your high school French, by all means stay here (my English was ignored, or I would not have persisted with the French) . Everywhere else in Morocco my efforts were met with a smile. We were asked to turn our keys into reception when we went out, yet turning mine in or picking it up, was always made to feel like I was inconveniencing the desk clerk. Breakfast staff served well but were also cold and distant…almost like they were afraid. I never saw a staff member crack a smile the entire time I was there. Smiles, no; sneers, yes, plenty of those. I stay in hotels at least 20 weekends a year (on business): and cannot understand this attitude. Guests are just that: guests, and should not be treated as barely tolerated impositions. They are on vacation, and the staff are part of the experience. They should be made to understand that they play a role in how their city is perceived by visitors.

The “central green palm trees” mentioned is a small atrium, with some potted plants, probably no bigger than 15 feet by 15, if that: that some of the rooms look onto. Other rooms (like mine) faced a street, that can be quite noisy from neighbors in the facing buildings, or the amplified speakers for the call to prayer. If you need uninterrupted sleep make sure and ask for an atrium facing room.

++ Not very far from the center (2.5km, 6 dirhams in a cab), the rooms are clean and good, friendly staff, and a niiice Riad.
- - I think the towels were not clean.
Très bon rapport qualité/prix, pas très loin du centre ville, jolie Riad.
