Stayed here in single room & had great stay. Low key but professional service, good breakfast, lovely roof terrace. If you can, check out the rooms before booking. Mine was very nice with window and enough room for one person, but some of the others looked a bit dark/small. Tucked away off the main street which was a plus. Recommended.

Solo traveller, stayed one night. The Riad is located down a long dark tunnel, and I didn't feel safe to walk back after dark, so sat in my tiny, dank, mouldy smelling room that night eating a baguette. (Apparently there were meals available but only if you had ordered them the day before!) The shower sprayed directly out of the bath on to the floor flooding the room (probably why the room smelt so damp). In the alley below a group of locals had a drumming session from 10pm till about 1am. In the morning I started to have breakfast on the terrace but had to ask to eat downstairs as about 10-15 bees kept landing in my food and 'buzzing me'. Check out time is advertised on booking.com as between 12 and 2pm so at 11.45am I returned to my room to pack my bag and check out. I found 3 staff members had entered my locked room and removed all of my belongings: they'd packed my toiletries, underwear, clothing, laptop and other personal items into my suitcase. They had also unlocked a 'security cupboard' in my room and removed my passport and money. When I asked the whereabouts of my belongings, they brought my suitcase to me from somewhere downstairs. Nothing had been taken but no apology or explanation was offered.

Although the riad is not easy to find as newbie to Essaouira, once at the riad the experience is great. The riad even sent one of its staff out to meet is at the Medina door.

The rooms are nice, cosy and clean. The staff, which has limited english, really tries to help and understand. The riad has a lot of stairs, and breakfast is served on the rooftop - but it is all worth it! The views are superb! Speaking of the breakfast - super tasty and was looking forward to it every night.

Would recommend it anytime!

Room Tip: If you like sleeping late, try to get a room below the last floor, as the moving chairs whilst break...

We stayed one night at Ryad Lyon-Mogador in April 2013.
First off, the owners are very friendly and allowed our kids to watch dvd's on the downstairs tv, the wi fi reception is great (one point on every floor) and the breakfast served on the roof tops was the best breakfast we had in Morocco by a long way.
We had two rooms, one twin room was on the small side but with windows facing out and a smart bathroom. The double room was tiny and musty smelling - I did not sleep well. It is good value for money, though and very well located.
If you are only spending one night it is fine but the room we had was too small for opening a suitcase except on the the bed.
If you are in Essaouira, do try the grilled fish on the seafront. The owners recommended it and it was the high points of our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger room.

Run by a french couple, they look after you excellently. Also their staff are extremely welcoming and smiley. The breakfasts were varied and reliable. The room suited our needs. The riad was superbly located in the medina. The terrace is superbly high, and you get the best views in town. "Essay ira/Essaouria", certainly applies. The beach is a must. I will be visiting again.

Hospitable owners who make a great breakfast that you enjoy on the rooftop with a lovely view. Unfortunately the bed in our room could not be accessed at the sides due to the narrow dimensions of the room, and the room cleaner moved our things around unnecessarily and even closed a suitcase on the shelf that was purposely left open one day (?!). Clean the room while we are out, sure - but do so unobtrusively please. I've mentioned this because its the first time in our experience. That said, the price is reasonable and the French owner is a nice fellow that does greet you with a smile and looks after you - inc. free computer use at the reception desk. Also be aware that the front rooms are close to a public access water collection point - so it can be noisy at times.

Room Tip: Specify a room other than the very narrow one with the double bed, and be aware that the rear rooms...

Went to this riad due to the good reviews here, and I am not disappointed.

It 's probably the tallest riad in Essaouira, the roof, most likely where you are going to have breakfast, offers a very good view of the city and the sea. (and the seegulls will try to take care of the leftovers of your breakfast)

The room is clean, the toliet and bathroom is ok (in Moroccan standard). Decent location, good service and price is very good.

The ratings are in relation to the standard of the city/country.
